Dockmaster Assistant – Deliver Outstanding Service at Chaffers Marina About us Chaffers Marina Ltd is a premier marina located at Clyde Quay Wharf in Wellington. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and a safe, well‑maintained harbour environment for our berth holders, tenants and visitors. About the role We are seeking a proactive Dockmaster Assistant to join our maintenance and operations team with a passion for working in the marine industry. This customer‑facing role involves hands‑on marina infrastructure maintenance, assisting customers with berthing, monitoring safety and security and helping to operate the boat lift. You will maintain a visible presence at the marina, ensure facilities are clean and tidy, and support continuous improvement, planning and operational initiatives. What you will be doing Greeting and assisting berth holders and visitors, ensuring exceptional customer experiences. Undertaking daily inspections, cleaning and maintenance tasks across marina facilities. Conducting regular patrols to check boat safety, berth lines, power and water connections. Recording maintenance issues, meter readings and incidents and reporting to the Operations Manager. Assisting with boat‑lift operations and coordinating contractors as required. Supporting the environmental management of the marina, including pump‑out services and waste management. Participating in an on‑call roster to respond to after‑hours emergencies. What you will bring 2–5 years’ experience in marina operations, boating, facilities maintenance or a similar hands‑on, customer‑facing role. Practical trade skills and the ability to use tools and equipment safely. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements. Physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors and on the water. A full driver’s license (additional marine or lifting licenses are advantageous). Flexibility to work on a roster, including one weekend per month on call. Comfortable using digital tools and learning new technologies to support marina operations.
