Job Description
Coach; Semi-Private Personal Training | The Pride, Auckland $30-32/hour to start, based on experience. Around 25 hours a week, mostly evenings with a couple of mornings. Most of our members haven't set foot in a gym in years. Some never have. They're shy, nervous, and they assume gyms aren't for people like them. Until they found The Pride. That's the job. Not counting reps or shouting over music. It's about making a nervous beginner feel like they belong, three times a week, until one day they realise they're not a beginner anymore. This isn't bootcamp coaching. Our pods are four people, max. You'll know every member's name, their goals, their injuries, what they did on the weekend, and exactly what weight they lifted last week, because we track every single working set. Strength programmes run in 5-week blocks. You'll coach technique properly, one person at a time, in a room where nobody gets lost at the back. We're building the best gym in NZ for 'non gym' people. We want someone who believes in that mission. Who you'd be working with We're a small team. Samu and Mel (owners, both full‑time coaches), Josh, and Lukas. Mel's also our nutritionist and every member gets a full consultation with her when they join. You'd be the fifth. Small enough that you'll know every member, and every member will know you. Who we're looking for Genuinely good with people, especially nervous ones. Empathetic, patient, quick to make someone feel at ease. Coachable. You'll get weekly 1-on-1 mentoring and monthly programming training. Ruthlessly consistent. Our members' progress depends on us showing up the same way every session. Able to have a hard conversation kindly, when someone's slipping. Qualified PT, first aid trained (or willing to get certified). The role Lead semi‑private sessions (4:1) using The Pride's systems Keep members accountable outside the gym through check‑ins, tracking & follow‑ups Onboard new members coming through our beginner programme Weekly team meeting, weekly 1-on-1 growth session, monthly programming training Hours Around 25 hours a week: 20 coaching sessions plus 4-5 hours of member support and gym operations. Mostly evenings with a couple of mornings, across: Weekday mornings (5:15am–10:30am) Weekday evenings (4:15pm–7:30pm) Saturday mornings (6:45am–11:30am) Clear path to more hours as we grow. We're planning a second site, and we intend to promote from within. What you get $30-32/hour to start, reviewed once you're fully signed off and running pods independently 24/7 gym access Weekly 1-on-1 mentoring.
