Newmarket Business Association operates one of New Zealand's leading privately funded urban community safety programmes, providing proactive security, crime prevention and public reassurance services across the Newmarket Business Improvement District. We are seeking a professional Security Consultant – Community Safety & Intelligence to join our highly respected security team. This is a professional advisory role suited to an experienced security professional or former law enforcement officer who enjoys analysing risk, identifying crime trends, developing security strategies and building positive relationships with businesses, community stakeholders, and partner agencies.There is a strong on the ground component. The successful applicant will play an important role in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for businesses, workers, residents and visitors. A key aspect of the position involves providing security advice, intelligence analysis wand practical security solutions to the Association and key stakeholders that support community safety and crime preventaion initiatives. About the Role Reporting to the Manager, you will: Identify emerging crime trends and contribute to intelligence-led community safety and security strategies. Conduct security risk assessments and provide advice to the Association, businesses and key stakeholders on security, crime prevention and public safety matters. Promote community safety and provide reassurance to businesses and the public through pro-active engagement prevention initiatives. Develop practical recommendations to improve security practices and reduce risks across the Newmarket Business Improvement District. Undertake proactive crime prevention initiatives. Gather and preserve evidence where required. Prepare high-quality incident reports, intelligence summaries and security analysis, including recommendations to support operational planning and decision-making. Work within Newmarket Business Association's operational policies, health and safety requirements and professional standards. Liaise professionally with NZ Police, retailers, emergency services and other stakeholders to identify emerging risks, advising on and supporting responses and community safety initiatives. Monitor and operate CCTV, body-worn cameras and communications equipment, analyse the information gathered, and report on emerging risks, crime trends and security issues. As part of the team, conduct highly visible mobile and foot patrols throughout the Newmarket precinct to identify security risks, engage with stakeholders, provide on-the-ground security advice, and obtain community feedback. Assist with emergency response and major events, including providing security advice and liaising with partner agencies where required. Respond to incidents involving retail crime, antisocial behaviour and public safety About You To be successful you will ideally have: Current New Zealand Certificate of Approval (COA). Current Full Driver’s Licence and valid First Aid Certificate (or date booked for assessment). Minimum three years' experience in security, public safety or a related frontline operational environment. Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgement. High personal integrity and professionalism. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Eligibility to work in New Zealand. Highly Desirable Relevant tertiary qualification in policing, law enforcement, security management, public safety, emergency management or a related discipline. Previous policing, or other frontline law enforcement experience. Training in conflict management, verbal de-escalation or emergency preparedness.
