Job Description
Somewhere in New Zealand, a project is being drawn up right now that needs exactly what Promax makes. The engineer hasn’t specified a product yet. The contractor hasn’t been chosen. That early moment is the one we want to own, and it’s the moment this role exists to find. We’re looking for a Business Development Representative to sit at the very front of our sales pipeline: scanning the national project landscape, uncovering the people and projects that lead to Promax being specified, and handing fully researched, contact-rich opportunities to our Business Development Managers to win. This is a hunting and research role, and it is proudly performance driven. You own the hunt, the highest-leverage part of the pipeline: you create the opportunities, and the sales team turns them into wins. That split is deliberate, and it is what lets you do one thing exceptionally well: leave no stone unturned across New Zealand and keep your finger on the pulse of every major project we could be part of. About Promax Promax Engineered Plastics is one of New Zealand’s leading manufacturers of rotationally moulded plastic solutions: water tanks and bulk liquid containment, stormwater, civil, rural and industrial products. We design and manufacture here in New Zealand, and we’re growing. This is a newly created role reporting to our Marketing Manager. What you’ll do Scan the national project pipeline through construction-intelligence platforms (BCI Central / Hubexo), our own database, and the open market, and pull out the projects that matter to us. Drill into early-stage projects to identify and verify the key players (specifiers, engineers, lead and main contractors) and their direct contact details. Make outbound calls to confirm a project is real, live, and has a genuine requirement for a Promax product, and to work out when it becomes actionable. Hand qualified, contact-complete opportunities to the right Business Development Manager with a clean brief, then move on to the next one. This is a full-time, in-office role (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) based at our Kerikeri office in the Bay of Islands. Who you are You’re a confident, technically sharp operator. You bring the drive and self-assurance of a strong salesperson, aimed not at closing deals but at finding and qualifying the opportunities that feed the sales team. This is a performance role, and you like it that way: you have clear targets, you can see the impact you make, and you want the numbers to show what you can do. Results-driven . You treat your weekly output like a quota and take real pride in hitting it. You want to be measured, and you back yourself to deliver. Confident on the phone . You’ll call a senior engineer, specifier or contractor you’ve never met, get past the gatekeeper, build rapport fast and draw out what you need. The first “no”, the voicemail and the dead end don’t slow you down. Technically sharp and automation minded . You work through an integrated stack of digital and AI tools instinctively, and you’re always building a faster, smarter way to do the job. Curious and thorough . You enjoy the hunt: digging into a project, working out who’s who, joining the dots and uncovering what competitors miss. A specialist who owns their part . You take pride in doing one job exceptionally well, creating clean, well-researched, contact-rich opportunities and handing them over at exactly the right moment so the closers can do what they do best. In short, we want the confidence and polish of a high-end salesperson, someone completely at ease on the phone with senior decision-makers, combined with the methodical, no-stone-unturned discipline of a first-class researcher. What’s on offer A newly created role you can shape and make your own, at an established and growing New Zealand manufacturer. A modern, AI-enabled tool stack, plus the training and coaching to get the most out of it. Clear targets and regular feedback, so you always know how you’re tracking and where you’re winning. A supportive team and genuine investment in this function Real scope to grow as you make the role your own. Life in the Bay of Islands: one of the most livable corners of New Zealand. Experience that helps We hire for drive and temperament first and train product and process, but the following will give you a head start: Background in lead generation, sales development, telemarketing, research, or recruitment. Familiarity with construction, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based sales environments. Strong comfort with CRM, LinkedIn and online research tools, and a real appetite for using AI to work smarter. To apply for this opportunity, you must be a New Zealand Citizen, Resident, or already hold a valid NZ work visa with the right to work in New Zealand. #J-18808-Ljbffr
