Attendance Advisor

STRIVE Community Trust - Auckland airport, North Island STRIVE Community Trust is seeking an Attendance Advisor to provide an integrated support service within our Attendance Services. This position is part of a 'wrap-around service' within STRIVE Community Trust, the school community, health and other education and social sector agencies and community organisations. The primary purpose for the Attendance Advisor is to apply the paramountcy of the child principle in terms of safety, and work in partnership with children and their families to provide a relationship of trust. It is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the learner. The Attendance Advisor collaborates with the parents /caregiver to identify and develop family led interventions that aim to 2) increase family support systems, 3) link the family to community agencies to sustain positive outcomes. Position offered is full-time (40 hours per week). Successful candidates will: Have basic knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, education, health and social providers provided by government and non-government agencies in the local community. Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns, particularly knowledge of tikanga Maori and Pacific peoples' culture. Knowledge of, and established links to, community networks and experience working in collaboration with community service providers, other government departments, including work in cross cultural situations. An understanding of intervention and treatment approaches to effect positive behavioural changes in young people including any of the following: Behavioural theories/ and or cognitive behavioural theory and how they inform assessment an intervention. The multiple determinants that can influence young people's behaviour such as truanting and offending. Issues relating to mental health disorders, alcohol and substance abuse Have a minimum of two years demonstrated experience working with vulnerable youth and their families Be self-directed and enjoy working with a team to develop services. Have competent written and verbal skills and a practical standard of computer literacy. Have a full clean driver's license. Have the right to work in New Zealand.
