Queenstown Catering – Queenstown, South Island Position: Assistant Coordinator & Duty Manager The Assistant Coordinator & Duty Manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of The Winehouse and supporting the successful delivery of weddings, functions, and catering events. This position requires a hands‑on leader who can confidently manage service, supervise staff, maintain excellent communication with the kitchen and management teams, and deliver exceptional customer experiences. The successful applicant must be flexible, reliable, and willing to work across all days of the week, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as rostered. Days off will vary depending on operational requirements. Employment Type: Fixed‑Term Full‑Time Remuneration : The starting pay rate for this position is $33.00 per hour, with a formal performance and remuneration review after the first three (3) months of employment. Hours of Work : This is a full‑time position. Hours will vary depending on business requirements, weddings and event schedules. Flexibility is essential, as the role includes evening, weekend and public holiday work. Roster : Rosters will be prepared in advance where possible; however, due to the nature of the hospitality and events industry, days of work and days off will vary from week to week. The successful applicant must be available to work any day of the week as required. Location : The primary place of work is The Winehouse, with the requirement to work at Queenstown Catering venues and off‑site events as required. Performance Review : A formal performance review will be conducted after the first three months of employment. This review will assess performance, leadership, teamwork, cultural fit and overall contribution to the business. Subject to satisfactory performance, remuneration may be reviewed at this time. Fixed‑Term Employment : This is a fixed‑term full‑time position. The fixed‑term arrangement, including the reason for the fixed term and the end date or event that concludes the employment, will be specified in the Employment Agreement in accordance with New Zealand employment legislation. You will work closely with the management team, wedding coordinators, chefs, beverage team and venue staff to ensure seamless event execution and efficient day‑to‑day operations. Whether leading a wedding reception, supporting an off‑site catering event, managing staff or overseeing venue operations, every task you complete contributes to creating memorable experiences for our couples and guests while maintaining the high standards Queenstown Catering & The Winehouse are known for. Key Responsibilities Venue Operations Support the coordination and daily operation of The Winehouse. Act as the Duty Manager during rostered shifts, ensuring compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and company policies. Open and close the venue as required. Lead, supervise and motivate the front‑of‑house team during service. Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained at all times. Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment. End of night reports to management team. Wedding & Event Management Take full responsibility for managing wedding receptions from the time guests are seated until the conclusion of the event. Coordinate service timing with chefs and the kitchen team to ensure meals are delivered efficiently. Manage speeches, formalities and event timelines in conjunction with the wedding coordinator or MC. Anticipate and resolve operational issues while maintaining a calm and professional presence. Ensure all guest requests are handled promptly and professionally. Supervise staff throughout the event and delegate responsibilities effectively. Oversee venue pack‑down, staff sign‑off and closing procedures following events. Catering Support Assist with Queenstown Catering events both on‑site and off‑site as required. Work on the floor during catering events, providing hands‑on service and supporting event operations. Represent Queenstown Catering & The Winehouse professionally at all times. Beverage & Stock Responsibilities Complete beverage stock counts each Saturday evening for the Beverage Manager. Carry out additional beverage stocktakes as required. Report stock discrepancies or operational concerns to management. Assist with maintaining beverage standards and stock organisation. Communicate effectively with chefs, management and front‑of‑house staff throughout service. Provide leadership and direction during busy service periods. Support the training and development of team members where required. Lead by example through professionalism, reliability and a positive attitude. Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment. General Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures. Ensure responsible service of alcohol at all times. Maintain high presentation standards throughout the venue. Assist in other operational duties as directed by management. Contribute ideas that improve efficiency, service and guest experience. Skills & Experience The successful applicant will have: A current Duty Manager's Certificate. Previous experience in hospitality, weddings or event management. Proven leadership experience within a hospitality environment. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure. High attention to detail. A proactive, hands‑on approach to work. A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences. Availability Must be available to work any day of the week. Days off will vary according to operational requirements. Must be available to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
