About the Role We are pleased to offer a one-year fixed-term position as a Laboratory Technician at our Awahuri Laboratory. As a Laboratory Technician, your primary responsibilities will include: Operating and maintaining flow cytometers, cell sorters, and other specialised laboratory equipment. Preparing laboratory media and reagents. Processing, filling, and sealing semen straws in a cold-room environment. Performing quality control procedures to ensure livestock semen meets strict production standards. Following laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality systems, and health and safety requirements. Assisting with general laboratory operations and continuous improvement initiatives. Candidate Requirements To be considered for this role, applicants should ideally have: A qualification in Biological Sciences or a related scientific discipline. Experience working in a commercial laboratory environment. A full New Zealand Driver Licence. Availability to travel and temporarily work at other STgenetics locations when required (e.g. Hamilton or Australia). Previous experience handling or analysing livestock semen is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage. We are looking for someone who demonstrates: A strong willingness to learn and develop new technical skills. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. High attention to detail and commitment to quality. A positive attitude and strong work ethic. Working Conditions This position involves: Permanent night shift work. Occasional shift changes to meet operational requirements. Temporary travel and relocation to support other STgenetics sites when required. Overtime during peak production periods. Working in a temperature-controlled cold-room environment. Standing for extended periods while performing repetitive laboratory tasks. Following strict laboratory biosecurity, quality assurance, and health and safety procedures at all times.
