Heavy Transport Certifying Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer Patchell Group of Companies – Rotorua, North Island Are you an experienced Heavy Transport Certifying Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer looking for the opportunity to work on industry-leading transport solutions that make a real difference to New Zealand's transport sector? We design and manufacture a wide range of specialist transport equipment and are seeking an experienced Certifying Engineer and or a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our professional engineering team. About the Role Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be responsible for providing certification services across a broad range of heavy transport projects while working closely with our design and production teams. Your responsibilities will include: Certifying heavy vehicle designs, modifications and repairs in accordance with New Zealand legislation and industry standards. Reviewing engineering calculations, drawings and supporting documentation. Conducting inspections throughout manufacture and modification processes. Ensuring compliance with NZTA Vehicle Standards, Land Transport Rules and relevant engineering codes. Liaising with customers, transport operators, regulatory authorities and external engineers. Providing practical engineering advice to support innovative design solutions. Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering systems and quality processes. Mentoring and supporting developing engineers and technical staff where appropriate. If you are a highly organised engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. Ideally you will have: Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certifying Engineer appointment (or eligibility to obtain appointment). A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification. Extensive experience within heavy transport manufacturing, modification or vehicle certification. Excellent understanding of NZTA Heavy Vehicle Standards and Land Transport Rules. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional written communication and technical reporting ability. The confidence to make sound engineering decisions. The ability to build positive working relationships with customers, regulators and internal stakeholders.
