About the role: We have the exciting opportunity for a Ta'iala (Youth Navigator) to join our team based in Auckland. As our Ta'iala (Youth Navigator), you will assist with the provision of care regarding mental health and addictions, social services and other support for youth. The Ta'iala (Youth Navigator) will ensure they demonstrate appropriate models of behaviour, acknowledging the personal influence on the life of the youth, and that this interaction has a positive influence and brightens the outcome for the youth in our service. Your responsibilities include: Working across systems and agencies, advocating for youth, strengthening navigator practices, and contributing to locally led solutions. Building connections with Pasifika, LGBTQIA+, and social service networks to enhance referrals, access, and culturally appropriate support. Being skilled in risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis response, with customised plans for whānau. As the successful candidate, you will have: Deep knowledge of Pacific, Māori, and high-deprivation communities, including language, values, and culturally appropriate frameworks. Strong understanding of youth challenges, emerging trends, and positive youth development principles; ability to design tailored care and growth plans. Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, youth/community development, Māori or Pacific studies (preferred but not essential). 2+ years working with youth, whānau, and Pacific communities; skilled in assessment tools, harm minimisation approaches, and holistic, Pacific-centered care models. Knowledge of health promotion principles, gambling/mental health/addiction issues; experienced in advocacy and engagement within Pasifika communities. Familiar with the Privacy Act, Mental Health and Disability Act, Vulnerable Children’s Act, and health and safety requirements. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, database systems, and virtual collaboration tools (Skype, Zoom, Teams). Cross-cultural competency, bilingual in a Pacific language, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, Treaty of Waitangi principles, and alignment with Mapu Maia’s mission and values.
