Job Description

We are currently seeking an Automation Engineer to design, develop, and commission industrial process control solutions. The role translates process requirements into compliant functional descriptions, PLC code, and HMI/SCADA applications, applying automation standards (Codex®) across multiple platforms. Working with internal project teams, customers, and site personnel, the position supports tendering, manages assigned project automation scope from planning through execution, provides on-site commissioning and technical support, and contributes to continuous improvement and digitalisation initiatives (e.g., remote monitoring and advanced process control). The role: Develop and maintain functional descriptions compliant with IEC 848 (Grafcet) standard from P&IDs and/or process descriptions. Develop PLC code based on functional descriptions. Develop HMI / SCADA applications. Implement automation standard on multiple platforms – training will be provided To use specialist knowledge to design and troubleshoot process control systems for installations to meet customer specifications within the design concepts. Provide technical support to the service and installation team. Undertake on site commissioning for the project as required. Coordinate the work of others working on the plant design. Undertake warranty and after sales service work as required or co-ordinate/manage subcontractors to undertake this work. Take responsibility for assigned projects from planning through to execution including onsite Commissioning. Assist the Sales and Applications team in developing and pricing the automation scope for an enquiry Assist with control design activities including equipment specifications, software technical specification, software functional design specifications. Assist with detailed costing based on tender specifications. Identify and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence of problems in previous systems. Once the project is let, manage systems development within the budget allowed. Create or assist in establishing a design and installation program for the work involved and manage the design program according to that plan. Participate in other project tasks as required by management including project management. Keep informed of competitor’s developments and techniques. Keep informed of emerging technologies. Undertake other tasks as required by Management. Develop in house tools for automation and business systems. Assist aftermarket team to implement digitalization strategy (remote monitoring, advanced process control, customer service portal) Liaise with customers to develop mutually acceptable remote access solutions in line with digitalization strategy Flexibility and willingness to travel and work on project sites for cumulative periods generally up to 6 months (not continuous) to support installation, commissioning and operator training activities. Requirements: Bachelor – Engineering / Mechatronics; or Bachelor of Information Technology Software Development; or equivalent experience At least 5 years’ experience in industrial software development, automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably the dairy, food or beverage sectors.
