Freelance senior designer / illustrator

We’d love you to join Gusto! We’re a team of information designers who specialise in transforming information to create clarity, understanding and impact. This is a senior freelance designer role with a strong focus on information design. We’re busy and looking for super talent to join us! Working in our central Wellington studio, you’ll apply your information design expertise to a range of projects, including visual identities, campaigns, reports, infographics, websites, animations and brand assets. We need someone who’s brilliant at both ends of the job: strong, original concept thinking, and the skills to take it through the full design phase and into production. If you’re used to handing the detail off to someone else once the idea’s landed, this probably isn’t the role – we need someone who enjoys being involved in the full design process. This opportunity is for a freelance role which may extend to full time. About you: You’re brimming with talent, have a design degree qualification and 4+ years of commercial design experience, including: Strong concept and graphic design skills Information and infographic design Illustration Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite In this role you'll bring: Expertise in information design, including the ability to analyse, decipher and visually communicate a broad range of information Solid problem-solving and creative thinking skills Natural desire to push your design to achieve the best user experience for the audience and the best outcome for our clients Innate curiosity to keep up with developments in design, accessibility standards and best practices, continuously improving your craft Excellent attention to detail Ability and confidence to communicate clearly with clients through email and meetings online or in person Confident communication skills for working directly with clients on briefings, guiding discussions, presenting work and receiving feedback Ability to balance creativity with practical requirements such as client goals, scope, timelines, budgets, and technical aspects Ability to work across multiple projects and adjust quickly for urgent requests and shifting priorities You’ll work on varied, meaningful projects, transforming information and creating design that has a positive impact on people’s lives.
