About the role We are looking for a Registered Nurse to provide safe, culturally responsive nursing care and support day-one primary care delivery, including assessment, triage, screening, monitoring, health education, recalls, referrals, care coordination and follow-up within Registered Nurse scope. Registered Nurse Prescriber applicants are welcome. Prescribing will only form part of the role where the successful candidate holds current Nursing Council authorization or condition for RN prescribing and Mapu Maia has confirmed the required prescribing governance, approved medicines list, clinical guidance and policy settings. You will work closely with the Nurse Practitioner / Clinical Lead, GP, Practice Lead and wider Mapu Maia services to support patient flow, prevention, early intervention, long‑term condition support, recalls, referrals, documentation, escalation, warm handovers and continuity of care. The role is a permanent full‑time 40 hours a week and is based in Hastings, Hawkes Bay. Your responsibilities include: Provide nursing assessment, triage, screening, observations, monitoring, health education, care coordination and follow‑up within Registered Nurse scope. Support day‑one clinic flow, consultation preparation, recalls, referrals, long‑term condition support, follow‑up actions and continuity of care. Recognise clinical risk, deterioration, urgent need, safeguarding concerns, privacy issues, family harm, public health risk or uncertainty and elevate through agreed pathways. Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation, including assessment, advice given, actions taken, escalation and follow‑up. For Registered Nurse Prescribers only: prescribe safely within the relevant Nursing Council authority, approved medicines list, competence, clinical guidance and Mapu Maia policy. Facilitate warm handovers and referrals to co‑located mental health, social services and public health services with appropriate consent and documentation. Contribute to audit, quality improvement, incident learning, prescribing review where applicable, peer learning and service improvement. Local travel may be required for external meetings, outreach and stakeholder engagement. As the successful candidate, you will have: Current registration with Te Kaunihera Tapuhi o Aotearoa | Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse and a current Annual Practicing Certificate. Strong nursing assessment, triage, communication, care coordination, documentation and escalation skills. Experience in primary care, community health, Pacific health, Māori health, long‑term conditions, public health or a relevant clinical setting. Understanding of RN scope of practice, delegation, informed consent, confidentiality, privacy, documentation and professional boundaries. For Registered Nurse Prescriber applicants: current Nursing Council authorization or condition for RN prescribing in primary health and specialty teams, or eligibility to obtain this before commencing prescribing duties. Commitment to culturally safe, Pacific‑centered and equity‑focused care for Pacific peoples, Māori, whānau, families and underserved communities. Authorised vaccinator status, cervical screening training, long‑term condition experience or other relevant primary care training would be advantageous. Current full driver's license is desired.
