About the role This is an opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner to help establish and lead (in the absence of a GP and or practice lead) safe day-to-day clinical delivery. You will provide autonomous advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, referral and follow-up within Nurse Practitioner scope. You will also act as the on-site clinical lead for clinic flow, immediate clinical risk, clinical prioritization, documentation quality and safe practice in the absence of a GP or practice lead. You will work in close peer partnership with the GP and practice lead. The role is a permanent full-time 40 hours a week and is based in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. Your responsibilities include: Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, referral, care coordination and follow-up within Nurse Practitioner scope. Lead on-site clinical prioritization, immediate risk escalation, patient flow, documentation standards and safe day-to-day practice. Hold clinical accountability for patients allocated to Nurse Practitioner care, including care planning, medicines management, referrals and follow-up. Support the Registered Nurse and Practice Manager with clinical escalation pathways, patient flow and safe service delivery. Work collaboratively with the Mapu Maia CEO, GP, practice lead and co-located services and external providers to support warm handovers, coordinated referrals and continuity of care. Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, incident learning, policy development and service improvement. Maintain clear informed consent, privacy, professional boundaries, lead practitioner clarity, documentation and escalation for shared-care cases. As the successful candidate, you will have: Current registration with Te Kaunihera Tapuhi o Aotearoa | Nursing Council of New Zealand in the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice. Current Annual Practicing Certificate and authorized prescribing status within Nurse Practitioner scope. Advanced assessment, diagnostic reasoning, prescribing, clinical decision-making, referral and care coordination skills. Experience in primary care, community health, long-term conditions, complex care or a relevant specialty area. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, mentoring, guidance and safe decision-making support. Strong understanding of clinical governance, informed consent, confidentiality, documentation, risk escalation and professional boundaries.
