Job Description
Big ideas. Real-world impact. At SYOS Aerospace, we're not here to do things the way they've always been done. We're building the next generation of autonomous systems across air, land, and sea - turning ambitious ideas into technology that works in the real world. From advanced autonomous aircraft to uncrewed surface and subsea vehicles, our technology is helping shape the future of robotics. You'll work alongside world‑class engineers in New Zealand, collaborate with teams internationally, and see your designs move from concept through to testing, manufacturing, and deployment. We're a fast-growing engineering company where prototypes become products, problems become opportunities, and no two days look the same. If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working hands‑on with hardware, and seeing your work come to life in the field, you'll fit right in. The SYOS Way We're growing fast, taking on bigger challenges, and building technology that matters. At SYOS, you won't be sitting on the sidelines. You'll have the opportunity to contribute, challenge ideas, solve problems, and take ownership of critical systems that power our autonomous vehicles. About The Role As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and integrating the electrical systems that sit at the heart of our autonomous platforms. From power distribution and communications through to wiring, integration and testing, you'll own complex electrical subsystems throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers, you'll help transform innovative concepts into reliable products that operate in demanding real-world environments. In This Role You Will Design electrical architectures, wiring harnesses, power distribution and communication systems for advanced robotic platforms. Own electrical subsystems from concept and prototyping through integration, testing and production. Design, prototype, fabricate and troubleshoot electrical hardware and assemblies. Support vehicle integration, manufacturing, validation and field testing. Work across multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges. Balance customer needs, engineering trade-offs and programme requirements throughout development. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product development practices. Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge across the team. Occasionally travel to support integration, testing and customer activities. What You'll Bring A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent industry experience). Proven experience designing electrical systems for complex products or machinery. Strong knowledge of electrical integration, wiring, cabling, connectors and power systems. Hands‑on experience with soldering, prototype assembly and electronics troubleshooting. Experience taking technical ownership of subsystems from requirements through to delivery. A practical engineering mindset with the ability to balance innovation with reliability and manufacturability. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams. A proactive attitude with a passion for building high‑performance technology. Nice To Have Experience developing robotics, autonomous systems, UAVs, marine systems or other complex electromechanical products. Familiarity with PCB design, embedded electronics or control systems. Experience supporting manufacturing, production or product industrialisation. Exposure to environmental, vibration or qualification testing. Knowledge of electrical design tools, documentation standards and systems engineering practices. The SYOS Mindset Curious people. Big ideas. No egos. A team that gets things done. We move fast, embrace challenges, and believe the best solutions come from great teams. We're Looking For People Who Collaborate openly - share ideas, support each other, and focus on the best outcome. Adapt and have a go - comfortable with change and excited by the unknown. Take ownership - see an opportunity? Step in and make it happen. Share knowledge - help others grow and make the team stronger. Care about what they build - take pride in creating technology that matters. We're a team of innovators, engineers and problem‑solvers who believe that great ideas can come from anyone. The best answer wins - regardless of title or experience. We're not looking for people who just want another job. We're looking for people who want to be part of the story. Come build with us. Challenge us. Grow with us. SYOS Aerospace – the time is now. #J-18808-Ljbffr
