Job Description

Reports to: Energy Consulting Team Lead Team: Energy Consulting Location: Auckland Company Overview At BraveGen, we believe that meaningful climate action starts with good data. We build enterprise SaaS solutions that help sustainability, facilities, and finance teams across New Zealand and Australia make sense of their emissions and energy performance, track their progress, and take confident steps on their decarbonisation journey. Our Building Optimisation & Commissioning service pairs BraveGen's audit-proven monitoring platform with expert-led consulting, helping building owners and managers achieve and maintain strong NABERSNZ, Green Star Performance, and LEED outcomes, identifying energy waste, and build the case for improvement. Position Overview The Building Optimisation Consultant supports the delivery of BraveGen's building performance consulting services across New Zealand and Australia. Working closely with senior consultants and the Head of Energy Consulting, you will help clients monitor, understand, and improve the energy performance of their commercial & Industrial buildings - with a particular focus on NABERSNZ ratings, Green Star Performance credits, LEED certification support, and continuous performance optimisation. This role suits someone with a few years of sustainability consulting, building services or energy engineering experience who wants to build deep, practical expertise in building performance rating schemes and data-driven energy optimisation. A strong emphasis of this role is turning complex portfolio and building performance data into clear, credible client-facing reporting - with a clear pathway to greater client ownership and technical scope as accreditation and experience develop. Performance Monitoring & Data Quality You keep the data clean, because good decisions depend on it. Conduct regular meter health and data quality checks across BraveGen's monitoring platform. Investigate data anomalies, gaps, and metering faults, and help coordinate remediation with site contacts. Carry out building walkthroughs, sub-meter data analysis, and BMS reviews, turning what you find into meaningful, practical, data-backed insight rather than raw observations. Contribute to monthly client performance reviews, preparing data summaries and draft commentary. Support quarterly site inspections, documenting observations relevant to metering, plant operation, and performance. Client-Facing Reporting & Communication You translate technical detail into something a client can act on - this is a core part of the role, not an occasional task. Draft portfolio and building-level performance reports for property managers and owners - clearly separating what's certain (delivered savings, CCX-confirmed reductions) from what's contingent on pending approvals or future pipeline works. Build and check the underlying numbers behind these reports: cumulative reduction tracking against targets, NABERS NZ rating trajectories, and capex/opex/YOC figures for proposed initiatives - then write the narrative that explains what's driving the trend and what's needed to close a gap. Engage confidently with a range of built environment stakeholders - asset managers, landlords, property managers, and facilities teams - adapting your communication to their priorities and level of technical detail. Attend client steering meetings and portfolio reviews, building the confidence to represent BraveGen's analysis directly to client stakeholders over time. Apply BraveGen's reporting discipline consistently: flag conditions, limitations, and assumptions clearly, and never present a pending or indicative outcome as certain. Technical Investigations & Improvement Opportunities You help find where the savings are hiding. Assist with targeted technical investigations into energy wastage, plant performance, and control strategies. Support capex feasibility assessments and business cases for energy efficiency upgrades, and help track their savings and rating impact. Professional Development You are building toward accreditation and broader consulting scope. Work toward NABERSNZ Assessor accreditation (If applicable), supported by BraveGen's training and mentoring. Develop working knowledge of Green Star Performance, LEED, and comparable rating frameworks relevant to BraveGen's NZ and Australian client base, with a view to contributing more directly to LEED consulting engagements over time. Take on increasing responsibility for direct client interaction and independent technical judgement as capability develops. Stay curious about AI tools and how they can be applied to building performance data and reporting - actively look for ways to use AI to add value for our clients, not just for your own efficiency. You deliver as part of a team, not in isolation. Work closely with Account Managers, Analysts, and other Consultants to deliver coordinated, high-quality outcomes for clients. Contribute openly to team discussions and ask for input when you're unsure - collaboration is expected, not a fallback. Skills & Experience A degree or equivalent technical qualification in building services engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, or a related discipline. 1–3 years' relevant experience in sustainability, building services, mechanical, or energy engineering. A passion for sustainability, building performance, or energy efficiency - prior exposure to NABERSNZ, Green Star, or LEED is an advantage but not essential. Comfortable working with data - spreadsheets, trend data, and basic analysis; familiarity with BMS or metering technology is a plus. LEED, Green Star Performance or NABERSNZ qualifications (e.g. LEED Green Associate/AP, GSAP-Performance, NABERSNZ Assessor accreditation) are a nice-to-have, not a requirement - BraveGen will support your training toward these if needed. Genuine curiosity about AI tools and an interest in exploring how they can speed up analysis or improve reporting quality - no specific tool expertise required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to turn technical or numerical detail into clear, professional client-facing narrative - this will be tested at interview. Evidence from university projects, internships, or prior work all counts. A methodical, detail-oriented approach and the ability to manage multiple client tasks concurrently - this work is compliance-adjacent, and accuracy and deadlines both matter. A collaborative, curious attitude - comfortable asking questions and escalating uncertainty rather than guessing. Nice-to-have system familiarity: Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word for analysis and reporting; Microsoft Dynamics for CRM/client data; and Claude (Anthropic AI) or similar AI tools - no prior experience required, but comfort picking these up quickly is a plus. Attributes Genuinely curious about how buildings work and how their performance can be improved. Careful and precise - client-facing conclusions need to be accurate, not just plausible. Open to feedback and coaching, with a clear desire to build toward accreditation and greater autonomy. A genuine team player who earns trust with clients and colleagues through consistency and follow-through. Brings a customer-centric mindset - understands that BraveGen's reputation rests on the credibility of every rating and report. #J-18808-Ljbffr
