Aporei | Principal Advisor, Office of the Deputy Secretary, Strategy (Fixed Term) Our Office of the Deputy Secretary, Strategy tīma is looking for an Aporei | Principal Advisor. The Principal Advisor supports the Deputy Secretary, Strategy as well as the Chief Advisor, Strategy to provide strategic oversight of the Strategy Puni's work programme and key initiatives. This is a full-time, fixed term opportunity until end of June 2027. Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity As Principal Advisor, Strategy, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight across the Puni, ensuring work programmes and initiatives are aligned, integrated and focused on achieving outcomes. You will deliver high-quality advice and insight to senior leaders, identify risks and opportunities, and help maintain a whole-of-Puni perspective. The role also provides leadership and mentorship to others and, when required, represents the Deputy Secretary to build strong relationships and support strategic outcomes across the system. The likely appointment range is$124,242 – $138,046 based on skills and experience. This will be pro-rated for the period of the fixed term. To be successful in this role, you will bring: Proven experience operating at a Principal Advisor level, with the ability to quickly get up to speed and add value from day one. Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to quickly understand complex issues, organisational priorities and the broader narrative. Excellent written communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality advice, briefings and decision-ready material. The agility and adaptability to respond to changing priorities and provide surge capacity where needed. A proactive, hands‑on approach, with a willingness to step in and support critical pieces of work. The ability to build trust, credibility and effective working relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, with a reputation for being reliable, responsive and delivering to a high standard. Experience in policy, public sector strategy, or a related advisory environment.
