This role is a great opportunity for someone from an accounting or financial analysis background who’s ready to apply their skills in a more client‑facing, commercially dynamic environment. As a Commercial Account Manager, you’ll support a portfolio of established commercial customers, working closely with a team of experienced bankers to understand each business and its banking needs. You’ll analyse financial performance, prepare lending submissions, and gain exposure to a wide range of industries and lending scenarios — from growth and expansion through to day‑to‑day working capital requirements. This is a role where you’ll see how your work directly supports businesses and contributes to the economic success of the region. You’ll prepare clear, well‑structured credit submissions for new and existing customers, drawing on financial statements, forecasts, and business insights to support informed lending decisions. You’ll assist with portfolio management activities including reviews, monitoring, and responding to a range of banking needs of Commercial clients. Helping to deliver practical banking solutions across lending, transactional banking, and related products, you’ll also support the effective management of credit and operational risk, ensuring customer needs are met in a responsible and sustainable way. The role includes close connection with customers, giving you the opportunity to build confidence in commercial conversations while developing your broader banking capability. This is a permanent position based at the ASB office in Palmerston North. You’re likely coming from an accounting, finance, or commercial analysis background, with strong experience interpreting financial statements and understanding how businesses operate. You enjoy analysing information, forming commercial insights, and understanding the drivers behind business performance. You may be looking for a role that offers greater variety, broader exposure, and closer customer engagement than traditional accounting pathways. Prior commercial banking experience isn’t required — we’re looking for strong analytical capability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Foundational in this role is clear written and verbal communication skills, a customer‑focused mindset, and the ability to translate financial information into practical recommendations.
