About Us Custom Fencing Ltd is one of Otago's leading rural, commercial and security fencing contractors. With a team of 11 full-time staff and a modern fleet of specialized equipment, we deliver projects across the rural, commercial, infrastructure and security sectors throughout the South Island. Working alongside our sister company, Custom Construction 2020 Ltd , we also deliver high-quality residential and commercial construction projects, including new homes, renovations, alterations and light commercial builds. As both businesses continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work across two well-established companies, helping drive profitability, improve systems and oversee the successful delivery of a diverse range of projects from tender through to completion. About the Role Reporting directly to the Directors, you'll play a key role in both the commercial and operational success of our projects. You'll be responsible for managing project costs while also taking ownership of selected projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. Your responsibilities will include: Preparing accurate estimates, tenders and quotations. Managing project budgets from contract award through to completion. Cost planning, forecasting and back-costing completed projects. Procurement of materials, plant and subcontractors. Preparing progress claims, variations and final accounts. Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors and Directors to ensure projects remain profitable and on programme. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors. Providing Quantity Surveying support to Custom Construction 2020 Ltd across new home builds, renovations, extensions and commercial construction projects. Assisting with project planning, procurement and cost control across both businesses. Helping develop and improve our estimating, costing and project management systems as we continue to grow. Project Management Responsibilities As part of this role, you'll also project manage selected jobs from commencement through to completion, including: Planning and coordinating project programmes. Scheduling labour, subcontractors, plant and materials. Liaising with clients, consultants and suppliers throughout the project. Monitoring budgets, programme and project performance. Managing variations and maintaining clear client communication. Supporting site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely and to a high standard. Identifying and resolving issues before they impact programme or profitability. Completing project handovers and close-out documentation. The Projects You'll Be Involved In No two weeks are the same. You'll gain exposure to a diverse range of projects including: Rural fencing. Commercial fencing. Security fencing. Infrastructure projects. Residential fencing. New home construction. Renovations and alterations. Light commercial construction. Design and build projects. From pricing and tendering through to project management and final handover, you'll have the opportunity to influence every stage of the project lifecycle. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has Quantity Surveying experience within construction, civil or infrastructure projects. Has strong commercial awareness and excellent financial management skills. Enjoys taking ownership of projects and seeing them through from start to finish. Can confidently prepare estimates, manage project costs and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors. Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Is organized, proactive and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Wants to play an active role in improving systems and growing two successful businesses. Enjoys working within a practical, down-to-earth team environment. Experience in residential construction, commercial construction, civil works, infrastructure or fencing would all be highly regarded. What We Offer Competitive salary package based on experience.
