About the job We’re looking for a motivated and capable Health & Safety Coordinator to play a key role in supporting the H&S Manager and ensuring our workplaces remain safe, compliant, and well-managed. You’ll take ownership of coordinating health and safety processes, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting both internal teams and contractors. Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Support Undertake detailed, risk-based reviews of subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) to ensure alignment with project scope, site conditions, and legislative requirements. Assess SSSPs relative to the level of risk involved (e.g. low-risk residential builds vs higher-risk ground works, work at height, temporary works, services interfaces). Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or inadequate controls within SSSPs and follow up with subcontractors for amendment prior to approval. Apply a proportionate review approach based on risk profile and complexity of works. Maintain accurate approval records and ensure no subcontractor commences work without compliant documentation. Oversee document and record maintenance for employees and contractors, ensuring corrective actions are completed promptly. Initiate subcontractor pre-qualification by sending documentation, tracking returns, and ensuring readiness before site commencement. Participate in weekly check-in meetings with the H&S Manager to review safety measures and emerging risks. Prepare monthly Health & Safety and Management reports, including maintaining the Incident & Accident Register and updating documentation. Work with the H&S Manager to develop and improve online safety systems and tools. General Administration & Documentation Create and update H&S registers that track each project through its life cycle, ensuring integrity and accuracy of all information. Ensure all documentation is correctly filed, clearly labelled, version-controlled, and that superseded documents are archived. Maintain company H&S policies, procedures, records, and safety management system data to ensure accuracy and compliance. Monitor data integrity across safety systems to ensure reliability and audit-readiness. Action emails, phone calls, and general administrative requirements for the H&S Manager and Site Managers. Maintain organised records of incidents, inspections, audits, training, and corrective actions. Prepare supporting information for management reports relating to safety performance. Help follow up on corrective actions identified during inspections or audits. Carry out other project-specific administrative tasks as requested. Champion continuous improvement and best practices across the health and safety function. Site Operations & Emergency Preparedness Assist the H&S Manager with routine site inspections, identifying hazards and supporting basic risk assessments. Coordinate H&S requirements for site handovers, including SSSPs, signage, site boxes, and key safety information. Manage PPE requirements on site, including site signage and notice boards. Facilitate emergency evacuation drills and ensure readiness across all teams. Training, Communication & Engagement Coordinate training, inductions, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns. Maintain training and competency records under guidance from the H&S Manager. Distribute updated training materials and ensure acknowledgment and understanding. Meetings & Communication Organise and participate in H&S meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring timely follow-up of actions. Draft toolbox talks as required. Contribute to staff communications by sharing relevant H&S updates. Support documentation and reporting of incidents, near misses, and hazards. Assist the H&S Manager with information gathering during investigations. Maintain the Incident Register and track implementation of corrective actions. Compliance Support the H&S Manager in ensuring company practices align with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and relevant industry standards. Assist with updating compliance registers and documentation. Skills, Experience & Education Proven experience reviewing and assessing subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) within the construction industry. Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to apply proportionate review levels based on scope and hazard profile. Practical knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its application within residential construction. Experience working in a Health & Safety Coordinator or similar coordination-focused role. Excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in documentation and compliance tracking. Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with subcontractors and site teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and digital safety management systems. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Reliable, professional, and discreet in handling sensitive information. Experience across contractor management, risk management, incident reporting, training coordination, audits, and documentation control. H&S certification preferred. Preferred current First Aid Certificate.
