Employing over 600 employees across six sites. We are seeking a capable and practical Sawmill Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operation of our Thames sawmill. Reporting to the Site Manager, this role is responsible for delivering a safe, reliable and efficient two‑shift operation producing structural timber products to agreed quality, volume and cost requirements. Reporting to the Site Manager, this role is responsible for delivering a safe, reliable and efficient two‑shift operation producing structural timber products to agreed quality, volume and cost requirements. About the Role The Sawmill Manager will provide operational leadership across both shifts, ensuring production plans are executed, teams are properly supported, and plant performance is managed in accordance with Claymark’s standards for health and safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the Thames sawmill two-shift operation to meet daily and weekly production requirements. Maintain a strong health and safety culture, ensuring safe systems of work are understood, applied and monitored. Manage team performance, shift handovers, attendance, training needs and day‑to‑day people matters in consultation with the Site Manager and People team. Ensure structural timber products are produced to required specifications, quality standards and customer expectations. Monitor plant performance, downtime, recovery, throughput and waste, taking prompt action where issues arise. Work closely with maintenance, saw doctors, supervisors and support functions to ensure equipment reliability and operational continuity. Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, productivity, quality and cost control. Maintain accurate production, quality, safety and operational records as required. About You Proven experience leading people and operations in a sawmill, timber processing, manufacturing or comparable production environment. Strong practical knowledge of production planning, shift leadership, quality control and plant performance. A clear commitment to health and safety, with the ability to set expectations and hold standards consistently. Sound judgement, problem‑solving capability and the ability to make timely operational decisions. Strong communication skills and the ability to work constructively with supervisors, operators, maintenance teams and senior site leadership. Computer literacy and confidence working with production reports, records and operational data. A calm, fair and visible leadership style, with a focus on accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
