Assistant Café Manager – Job Description Location: 159 Whitaker Street, Te Aroha 3320 Employment Type: Full-time (Permanent) Hourly Rate: $25.50 per hour Minimum Hours per week: 30 Reports To: Café Manager Job Summary: The Assistant Café Manager supports the Café Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring smooth workflow, and delivering a high-quality customer experience. This role involves assisting with staff supervision, inventory control, compliance, and customer engagement while fostering a positive work environment and supporting overall business performance. Key Responsibilities: Operational Support: Assist in supervising day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and consistency in service. Support quality control of food and beverage presentation, adhering to brand and hygiene standards. Help implement and enforce operational procedures and café policies. Monitor cleanliness and maintenance of the café, ensuring compliance with food safety and workplace hygiene standards. Support stock monitoring, ordering processes, and supplier coordination under the guidance of the Café Manager. Act as a Café Manager in absence of Café Manager. Staff Support & Leadership: Assist in training and mentoring team members to deliver excellent customer service. Provide daily guidance, delegate tasks, and support staff scheduling when required. Foster a respectful, motivated, and collaborative team culture. Step into leadership when the Café Manager is absent or during peak periods. Customer Service Excellence: Uphold high standards of customer service, ensuring guest satisfaction at every touchpoint. Respond to customer inquiries and complaints professionally and efficiently. Actively promote a welcoming atmosphere and resolve service issues promptly. Financial & Inventory Assistance: Support daily cash handling procedures, point-of-sale operations, and end-of-day reconciliations. Monitor product usage and assist in tracking food and beverage costs to minimize wastage. Provide input on promotional activities and seasonal offerings to drive sales. Marketing & Engagement: Assist in implementing marketing strategies including social media promotions, loyalty programs, and community engagement. Contribute ideas for menu innovation and local collaborations to enhance visibility and customer reach. Compliance & Safety: Promote and maintain a safe working environment in line with regulatory standards. Ensure all staff follow hygiene practices and safety protocols. Stay informed about food safety requirements and support compliance documentation. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Customer Experience: Maintain high customer satisfaction levels, reflected through feedback and repeat patronage. Operational Support: Ensure efficient execution of daily tasks with minimal disruption. Team Morale: Contribute to a positive team culture and support low staff turnover. Inventory Accuracy: Assist in maintaining optimal stock levels and minimizing wastage. Cash Handling Accuracy: Ensure proper financial transaction processes with minimal discrepancies. Health & Safety Compliance: Assist in upholding full compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations. Qualifications and Skill Requirements Diploma or degree in Hospitality/Business/Commerce or a related field (preferred) OR a minimum of 2 year of experience in a managerial/supervisory role within the café, restaurant, or hospitality industry. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, reporting, and cost control. Knowledge of food and beverage industry trends and best practices. Ability to multitask and handle a fast-paced environment.
