Job Description

Trade Assist is seeking motivated and reliable Junior Solar Installers (Non-Electrical) to join a growing renewable energy team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands‑on outdoor work, have a strong focus on health and safety, and are looking to build a career in New Zealand's fast‑growing solar energy industry. You will install and maintains residential and commercial solar energy systems — including photovoltaic panels, roof‑and ground‑mounted arrays, battery and energy‑storage systems — to manufacturer specifications and applicable regulatory standards. All mains/AC connection and other prescribed electrical work is carried out by a registered electrician; this role does not perform work requiring electrical registration. Key Responsibilities Interpret engineering plans, site drawings and manufacturer specifications to set out roof- and ground-mount array layouts. Install mounting systems — brackets, rails, racking and fixings — to roof and ground structures, and weatherproof/flash all penetrations. Mount, position and secure PV modules, inverters, battery and energy‑storage units and balance‑of‑system components. Assemble and mechanically install DC-side wiring, conduit, cable containment and connectors up to the point of connection reserved for a registered electrician. Carry out commissioning checks, servicing, cleaning, performance monitoring and fault diagnosis on installed systems, and rectify non‑electrical faults. Work to all health, safety and working‑at‑height requirements, and to the regulatory standards and legislation applicable to solar energy system installation. Coordinate with the registered electrician, who performs all AC/mains connection, final termination, grid tie-in and electrical certification. Qualifications & Experience A relevant NZQF Level 4 (or higher) qualification in a related field, or 2 years of relevant industry experience in solar/energy‑system installation. Working‑at‑heights and site‑safety certification; full clean driver's licence. Sound use of hand and power tools; ability to work at height and lift to ~25 kg.
