HSEQ Manager

WestReef Services Limited - Westport, South Island WestReef Services is seeking an experienced and passionate HSEQ Manager to lead health, safety, environmental and quality performance across the Buller Holdings Group of businesses, including WestReef Services and Buller Recreation. This senior leadership role is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a well-established HSEQ function, while influencing organisational culture, supporting governance, and ensuring our people return home safely every day. Buller Holdings is a Buller District Council owned trading organisation, that owns WestReef Services Limited and Buller Recreation Limited who operate the Pulse Energy Recreation Centre and Reefton Pool. In this role, you will report directly to the WestReef Services General Manager. You will work closely with business and group management, workers, and subcontractors to strengthen HSEQ performance and to deliver and support practical, effective, and compliant HSEQ systems that meet the needs of the businesses across the Buller Holdings group. About the Role As our HSEQ Manager, you will provide both strategic leadership and hands‑on operational support across a diverse range of activities including all aspects of civil infrastructure construction and maintenance, recreation facilities and related services. Key responsibilities include: Leading and maintaining HSEQ management systems aligned with ISO 45001 principles Managing critical risk, hazard identification and incident investigation processes Ensuring compliance with New Zealand H&S legislation, environmental requirements and industry best practice Overseeing audits, corrective actions, certifications and accreditation programmes Driving continuous improvement initiatives and a strong health and safety culture Supporting Buller Holdings & Buller Recreation with specialist H&S guidance and system development About You You are a proactive and respected HSEQ professional with a passion for people, safety and continuous improvement. Known for your ability to build effective relationships, and deliver practical outcomes, you have the confidence, credibility and judgement to lead HSEQ systems, governance and operational safety initiatives, in dynamic and complex environments. To be successful in this role, you will have: Relevant qualification in Health & Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline Minimum 5 years' experience in health, safety, quality and/or environmental management Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and compliance requirements Experience working within operational or high‑risk environments Proven ability to influence leaders and workers alike, and provide advice at management and governance levels Preferred professional accreditation such as NZISM, NEBOSH or equivalent Why Join Us?
