Advisor, Ministerial Services Wellington-based | Permanent, Full-time role Build Your advisory career at the heart of government Are you early in your career and keen to understand how government works in practice?This is an opportunity to build highly transferable advisory skills while supporting important processes at the centre of government. You will join a collaborative Ministerial Services team and work with people across the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC), Ministers’ offices and other government agencies. You will be supported to develop your knowledge of the machinery of government, ministerial processes and the Official Information Act1982. Along the way, you will strengthen your writing, judgement, relationship management, organisation and problem-solving skills. We do not expect you to know everything on your first day. We do expect you to be curious, receptive to feedback, dependable and committed to getting the details right. About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga As an Advisor in Ministerial Services, you will help DPMC manage information requests and processes accurately and on time. Managing our public facing inbox, and assessing and logging requests for official information Maintaining accurate workflow, reporting, filing and recordkeeping systems Coordinating and drafting responses to Official Information Act requests, Privacy Act requests, and Ministerial correspondence, as well as managing proactive release processes Working with subject matter experts to identify, assess and organise relevant information Monitoring statutory deadlines, following up actions and escalating risks when needed Quality-checking information to make sure it is clear, complete and appropriate Building constructive relationships across DPMC, Ministers’ offices and other agencies The work is deadline-driven and priorities can change quickly. You will need to remain calm, reprioritise thoughtfully and maintain the quality of your work. You will also handle sensitive and, at times, classified information, so discretion and sound judgement are important. The likely appointing range is $83,449 – $88,085 total remuneration inclusive of KiwiSaver, depending on skills and experience. You will need a genuine interest in public administration and the ability to build practical knowledge of ministerial processes, the Official Information Act and how government works. Any existing understanding gained through study or work would be an advantage, but deep expertise is not expected. Your relevant experience might come from study, an internship, administration, coordination, communications, customer service, information management, or another role where accuracy, judgement and meeting deadlines matter. We will provide training and support to help you succeed. A relevant tertiary qualification, or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience, is required. No security clearance is required for this position. The team works together in our central Wellington office four days a week, with one day working from home. This supports hands‑on learning, strong team connection and collaboration, while providing some flexibility.
