Key facts Location: Auckland, AKL Engagement: Internship What you'll do Collaborate with the engineering team to assist in the design and development of innovative construction solutions. Participate in project meetings to understand project requirements and contribute ideas for improvement. Conduct research on industry trends and technologies to support ongoing projects and enhance product offerings. Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including project reports, specifications, and user manuals. Utilize CAD software to create and modify design drawings under the guidance of senior engineers. Support the testing and evaluation of new products and prototypes to ensure they meet quality standards. Engage in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities to resolve technical issues that arise during project execution. Help maintain project schedules and documentation to ensure timely completion of tasks. Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your knowledge of construction technologies and best practices. Network with industry professionals and gain insights into career development opportunities within the construction sector. Contribute to team brainstorming sessions to foster a culture of innovation and creativity. Provide feedback on internal processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity. Requirements Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program at the University of Canterbury, such as Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management. Strong academic performance with a foundational understanding of engineering principles and construction practices. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and familiarity with design tools is preferred. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and present ideas. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to tasks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in all aspects of work. A willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment, with a positive attitude towards challenges. Nice to have Previous internship or work experience in the construction or engineering field is a plus. Knowledge of building codes and regulations relevant to the construction industry. Familiarity with project management software and tools. Experience in conducting research and presenting findings in a clear and concise manner. Interest in sustainable building practices and innovative construction technologies. Skills & tools Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and presentations. Experience with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana) to track project progress and tasks. Understanding of construction materials and methods, with an emphasis on modern building techniques. Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques to support research activities. Practical notes This internship is based in Auckland, AKL, and is suitable for students who are currently enrolled at the University of Canterbury.
