Job Description

About the Role We are seeking a Medical Oncologist to join our progressive Cancer and Blood Service in TeTaiTokerau, Northland. The role involves providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with cancer, working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Primarily based at Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre, Whangārei Hospital, you will play a key part in the major uplift of oncology treatment services across Aotearoa. Two permanent full‑time positions are available within Health NewZealand – a service grounded in the principles of TeTiriti oWaitangi. About the Location Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in TeTaiTokerau, providing secondary care services and supporting three regional hospitals in Kaitaia, Kawakawa and Dargaville. The Cancer and Blood department delivers a comprehensive oncology outpatient service across the region, with frequent opportunities to travel and work in rural areas of Northland. The area offers a warm climate, night‑less winters, excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal recreation. It lies just two hours’ drive or a 25‑minute flight from Auckland. About You Applicants must be Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Medical Oncology or equivalent, and must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the NewZealand Medical Council. Demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams are required. Support the delivery of newly funded medicines and expanded services to rural centres, including Bay of Islands Hospital in Kawakawa.
