Lecturer / Senior Lecturer - Defence and Security Studies Centre for Defence & Security Studies - Wellington Campus Massey University invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the Centre for Defence & Security Studies based on our Wellington campus. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to teaching, research, and engagement in a dynamic and internationally respected academic environment. The successful candidate will be appointed across either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level depending on skills and experience, with a salary range of $86,113 - $152,711 per annum. This position is based within the Centre for Defence & Security Studies which maintains strong stakeholder relationships and routinely produces high quality research and public commentary on security and defence matters. As New Zealand's leading centre of education in Defence and Security Studies we offer a diverse range of interdisciplinary programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level designed to provide students with the intellectual competence to confront the complex security challenges of both today and the future. We welcome applications for this position from candidates who have a strong understanding of historical and contemporary issues in the field of intelligence and intelligence studies, including an understanding of the theory and practice of intelligence analysis, the application of structured analytical techniques, and the process and evaluation of intelligence analysis. Ideally, the successful candidate will also have a second research strand such as, for example (and not restricted to), AI and security, emerging security technologies, area studies, or resource, energy or economic security. Applicants should be able to provide evidence of relevant research in quality peer reviewed publications, ideally have experience in postgraduate supervision as well as in curriculum development, and be keen to engage with stakeholders in generating research and educational opportunities. In this role you will contribute to high‑quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, undertake impactful research, supervise postgraduate students, and actively engage with external stakeholders including government, defence, and industry partners.
