THE OPPORTUNITY We're looking for a sharp, digitally-savvy Homepage Editor to help showcase the very best of NZ Herald journalism and drive audience engagement, loyalty and subscriptions. As part of our Homepage team, you'll play a critical role in how our stories are presented, packaged and discovered across digital platforms. You'll work closely with newsroom leaders, journalists, producers and audience specialists to ensure our journalism reaches as many New Zealanders as possible. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You'll make real-time editorial decisions, optimise content performance, and help shape the digital experience for audiences across NZ Herald's platforms. How You'll Do It Curate and optimise the NZ Herald homepage to maximise audience engagement and subscription growth. Edit and produce high-quality content quickly and accurately, ensuring clarity, accuracy and consistency. Craft compelling headlines, captions, intros and promotional copy tailored to different platforms and audiences. Use audience data, analytics and A/B testing tools to make informed content decisions and improve performance. Work with journalists, editors and production teams to enhance stories with visuals, video, graphics and interactive elements. Upload and optimise content within the CMS, including SEO headlines, metadata and tagging. Monitor breaking news and respond quickly to changing priorities in a busy newsroom environment. Support social and digital channel curation when required. Coach and collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve digital storytelling and production standards. Maintain a strong understanding of media law, editorial standards and NZME policies. About You You’ll be an experienced journalist, editor or digital producer who combines strong editorial judgement with a passion for digital storytelling. You’ll Bring Experience working in a fast-paced newsroom or digital publishing environment. Exceptional writing, editing and headline-writing skills. Strong news judgement and an audience-first mindset. Confidence using digital publishing systems, analytics tools and content management platforms. The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines under pressure. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach. A commitment to continuous learning and embracing new technologies. A strong understanding of media law, editorial ethics and industry best practice. Most importantly, you'll be passionate about delivering quality journalism and helping NZ Herald remain New Zealand's most trusted and influential news destination.
