We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Library Assistant to help deliver exceptional library services to our community especially our younger customers as we have a unique relationship with the school. Reporting to the Māniatoto Library Team Leader, this permanent part-time position plays an important role in providing welcoming customer service, supporting library programmes, maintaining collections and helping customers access digital resources and technology. The Māniatoto Library serves both the wider community and local schools, with students being regular and valued users of the library's services. Job Description Key Responsibilities Library Assistant - Māniatoto Job Description Deliver friendly, professional and helpful customer service to library users Assist with library circulation activities including issuing, returning and reserving library materials Enrol new library members and maintain accurate customer records Provide reader advisory services and help customers discover books and resources Support customers with digital resources, devices, public computers, Wi‑Fi and self‑service technology Assist with printing, scanning and photocopying services Maintain library collections through shelving, shelf checking, weeding and basic repairs Support community programmes and events including story times, school visits, digital literacy sessions and workshops Contribute to the development of displays, programmes and services About You Desired Skills and Experience Customer service experience in a public‑facing environment Strong digital literacy and confidence using technology Excellent written and verbal communication skills The ability to assist customers with patience and professionalism Strong organisational skills and attention to detail The ability to work independently and as part of a team An interest in books, reading and community learning The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children and creating positive experiences for them.
