Robertsons is a specialist insurance law firm.We primarily act for insurers and their insureds in the defence of liability claims, and are recognised by The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as one of New Zealand’s leading insurance practices. We are seeking a solicitor with 3–8 years’ post‑qualification experience to join our Auckland office. The role The successful applicant will take carriage of their own caseload, working directly with the partners and with clients.The work is varied and will be tailored to the applicant’s experience.It is likely to include: Civil claims brought against professionals and general liability claims across a broad range of disciplines, including accountants, engineers, architects, valuers, insurance brokers, financial advisers and construction professionals; Statutory liability matters, including investigations and prosecutions by regulators; Coverage and indemnity advice, policy interpretation and wording review; Proceedings in the District Court and High Court, together with mediations and settlement negotiations; and Regulatory investigations and professional disciplinary matters. Experience and attributes 3–8 years’ post‑qualification experience. Admitted, or immediately admissible, as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Litigation experience is preferred.Prior insurance experience is not required.Applications are welcomed from practitioners with a background in civil or commercial disputes, regulatory work or professional disciplinary matters who wish to specialise in insurance. Sound analytical ability and commercial judgement, with the capacity to identify the issues that matter early in a claim. Precise drafting and concise, practical written advice. The confidence to manage files independently and to deal directly with insurers, brokers and insureds.
