About The Role In this rewarding role, you’ll support a diverse group of adults with varying interests, goals, and support needs. Working alongside both men and women, you’ll empower people to build independence, strengthen life skills, participate in their communities, and live the lives they choose. No two days are the same. One day you may be supporting someone to prepare healthy meals, manage their home, or achieve personal goals, while another day may involve community outings, recreational activities, or helping someone develop new skills and confidence. You’ll also provide support during times of heightened anxiety or emotional distress by following Positive Behaviour Support strategies and helping create a calm, safe, and respectful environment. Support May Include Encouraging independence with household tasks, cleaning, cooking, and budgeting Supporting community participation, recreation, and healthy lifestyles Assisting people to achieve their personal goals and develop new skills Supporting emotional wellbeing using Positive Behaviour Support approaches Building confidence, social connections, and meaningful relationships Maintaining accurate documentation and working collaboratively with families, whānau, and the wider team About You We’re looking for Support Workers who bring patience, empathy, consistency, and a calm, grounded approach—especially when supporting people who may at times display challenging behaviours. A sense of humour, strong communication skills, and alignment with our values are essential to success in this role. We’re Looking For Someone Who Is Compassionate, patient, and able to build genuine relationships Resilient, calm, and confident supporting people through challenging situations Physically fit and able to participate in active community-based activities such as walking, swimming, and spending extended periods on their feet Creative and proactive, with the ability to encourage engagement and identify meaningful activities based on each person’s interests A strong communicator with excellent written and verbal English Organised, reliable, and committed to person-centred practice A positive team player with a good sense of humour and a genuine passion for empowering others Essential Requirements Legal right to work in New Zealand Full, clean New Zealand Driver Licence Willingness to complete Police and Oranga Tamariki safety checks Experience supporting people with complex support needs or behaviours of concern Experience supporting autistic people Strong computer literacy and confidence using digital systems A high standard of written and spoken English Why Join Us At Community Connections, you’ll be part of a values-led team committed to making a positive difference every day.
