Head and Neck Fellow Fixed Term - 12 months Head and Neck Surgical Fellow Fixed Term Te Whatu Ora - Waitemata Waitemata District serves the largest population in New Zealand providing services to more than 640,000 people and employing more than 8,800 staff. The successful applicant will join our SMO team of friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated professionals in the Otolaryngology and General Surgery Department. Extensive operating experience within the sub-speciality focus of Head & Neck is expected, and this fellowship post is aimed at preparing candidates for independent practice in Head & Neck surgical oncology. Core components of the Fellowship include participation in the weekly Auckland Regional Head and Neck Oncology and Endocrine multidisciplinary meeting, regular outpatient clinics and operating sessions across North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals, and multidisciplinary management of complex head and neck disease. Fellows will gain broad experience across the Head and Neck service, working alongside both Otolaryngology and General Surgery consultants. The successful candidate will provide regional after-hours support from home to the Head and Neck unit. Fellows appointed from a General Surgery background (FRACS General Surgery or equivalent) will also participate in the General Surgery SMO on-call roster. Opportunities exist for exposure to all aspects of head and neck surgery with an emphasis on advanced thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, advanced or metastatic skin cancer, facial plastics, oral cavity cancer, laryngology, transoral oropharyngeal surgery, and locoregional flap reconstruction. North Shore Hospital is the first public hospital in New Zealand to acquire a Da Vinci surgical robot and plans are underway to establish New Zealands first public TORS service. Participation in regular audit is expected, and opportunities exist for clinical research. The clinic offers a full range of General Surgery and ORL assessments and adult diagnostic services, including a multidisciplinary Neck Lump Clinic and Rapid Access Voice and Swallowing Clinic - including experience in transnasal oesophagoscopy and in-office LASER procedures. You will work closely with other health professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, and the ORL Specialty Nurse and Cancer Nurse Specialist team. To be eligible for this Fellowship, candidates must a) have successfully completed training in General Surgery or Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery with a minimum qualification of FRACS or equivalent (FRCS, FRCSC etc.), c) have English language skills sufficient to pass the IELTS English language test.
