Job Description This role is a distinctive blend of sales and technical support, making it a true hybrid position. We are seeking a proactive self-starter with strong organisational skills who can manage the full customer journey, from initial sales engagement through to technical assistance and ongoing relationship management. The Automation department comprises five key areas. Automation and Electrification Linear Motion Technology Assembly Technology Sales and Technical Support The Automation Sales Engineer is responsible for developing and growing strategic customer accounts. This role requires a proactive and commercially focused approach to expanding Hyspecs Automation & Controls’ market presence and supporting sustained growth through effective business development. We are looking for an accomplished, hands-on sales professional with a proven ability to build strong relationships with partners and customers. Identify, plan, and develop new customer opportunities and contacts at key growth accounts within the assigned territory and channel partners. Provide sales and technical support across all Automation products, including automation and electrification, linear motion technology, assembly technology, cobots, and tightening tools. Review customer applications and collaborate with the Automation and Electrical team to recommend the most suitable solution. Determine pricing for direct customers and work with channel partners on pricing, including special pricing agreements. Provide input to Hyspecs’ sales management, product management, and customer support teams on sales policies, pricing, market growth, trends, competitor activity, and sales initiatives. Deliver technical presentations and conduct basic product training when required. Assist Hyspecs Automation & Controls with the specification process and support growth within defined accounts. Maintain regular CRM reporting for account activity, opportunities, quotations, and account development. Prepare required reports in a timely manner, including expense reports, business plans, and other reporting as needed. Participate in sales meetings, training sessions, trade shows, and exhibitions as required. Undertake special assignments as required. Travel within New Zealand to visit customers as required. Qualifications A technical qualification or engineering degree, with a sound understanding of electromechanical principles. Ideally, at least five years of sales, hands-on technical, or related industry experience. Knowledge of automation and electrification products, including PLCs, motion controls, HMIs, I/O, computing, software solutions, and factory automation machine applications. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful sales strategies and manage projects that support profitable growth. Clear understanding of sales processes and project management principles. Ability to quickly understand complex technical issues and communicate relevant information clearly to non-technical customers. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Capability to deliver technical and sales presentations to key clients. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and deliver projects on time. A genuine eagerness to learn and develop. A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
