He Kōrero Mō Mātou | About Us Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa - Peer Services (formerly Mind & Body) is dedicated to strengthening whānau and communities using lived experience. Since 1998, we have provided peer-led support, advocacy, training, and consultancy, guided by hope, personal power, and connection. We support people facing mental health and addiction challenges to take charge of their recovery and wellbeing. Our work includes de-stigmatising mental distress, reducing marginalisation, fostering social inclusion, and delivering mental health education in workplaces, schools, and organisations, supporting people move forward and reach their full potential. Ngā Ratonga | Our services: The Piki Peer Support Service provides free, personalised peer support to rangatahi (18–25 years) across Wellington, Kapiti, Hutt Valley, and Wairarapa. We connect with young people in ways that work for them, offering support at a convenient time and place. Our Peer Support Workers draw on their own lived experience to build authentic relationships, inspire hope, and support rangatahi to overcome challenges, strengthen their wellbeing, and create positive change in their lives. He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role Make a difference through your lived experience As a Peer Support Worker , you’ll connect with rangatahi/young adults (18–25 years) and their whānau across the Wellington region, providing meaningful support through genuine connection, understanding, and shared experience. Drawing on your own lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction and recovery, you’ll walk alongside rangatahi on their wellbeing journey, offering hope, encouragement, and practical support to help them build confidence, resilience, and connection. We currently have one opportunity available: Fixed Term Full Time (ending 1 March 2027) 30 hours per week , worked flexibly to meet the needs of rangatahi, generally between 7am – 7pm There may be times, depending on the needs of the peer you are supporting, where work outside of these hours is required. He kōrero mōu | About You Your lived experience is at the heart of this role. You’ll bring your own journey of recovery from mental distress and/or addiction, using your experiences, understanding, and compassion to connect with and support rangatahi. In your cover letter, we’d love for you to share a little about your recovery journey and what inspires you to support others. You'll also have: A Level 4 Health & Wellbeing Certificate (or equivalent) Personal lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction challenges, with the ability to share your journey of taking control of your wellbeing, along with the insights and self-awareness you have gained along the way. A current First Aid certificate including CPR , or the willingness and ability to complete this Experience building positive relationships with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, including Māori and Pasifika communities and their whānau Group facilitation skills, or an interest and willingness to develop these skills A positive attitude, a good sense of humour, and a genuine passion for supporting others A full New Zealand driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle ( petrol costs will be reimbursed ) If you’re someone who believes in the value of lived experience and wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of rangatahi, we’d love to hear from you.
