SSEL is a busy Auckland-based engineering firm specialising in metal fabrication, assembly, and installation for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. We are seeking a skilled and reliable Welders / Fabricators (upto 4 positions) to join our team and support our growing project demands.

\n

Key Terms & Remuneration:

\n

Pay Rate: $30.00 – $39.00 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications).

\n

Guaranteed Hours: Minimum of 30 hours per week (maximum up to 50 hours per week).

\n

Trial Period: No trial period will apply to this position.

\n

Other: Candidates must pass a background check and be physically fit for heavy lifting.

\n

Responsibilities and Tasks:

\n

The successful candidate will cut, shape, join, and repair metal components for various iron and steel structures, boilers, pressure vessels, and industrial equipment. Duties include:

\n

Technical Planning: Studying blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements and sequences of operations.

\n

Preparation: Selecting, cleaning, and preparing metal stock; operating angle grinders and other tools to prepare parts for welding.

\n

Fabrication: Cutting marked-out metal sections using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines; shaping and bending metal sections/pipes using machine tools or heating/hammering.

\n

Assembly & Alignment: Aligning parts to be joined using calipers, rulers, and measuring instruments; positioning, fitting, and welding parts to form complete units using jigs and hand tools.

\n

Welding: Joining metal sections using various techniques (TIG/MIG/Arc/MMA) on materials including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.

\n

Quality Control: Examining welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision; testing and inspecting welded surfaces to discover flaws.

\n

Finishing: Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling, and grinding; finishing products by polishing or bathing in acidic solutions.

\n

Minimum Requirements:

\n

Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in metal fabrication and welding.

\n

Qualification Alternative: The experience requirement may be substituted if the applicant holds a relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or equivalent).

\n

Technical Skills: Strong ability to read and interpret welding symbols, complex plans, and blueprints.

\n

Safety: Working knowledge of industry safety standards (e.g., AWS, API, ANSI, ASME) and a strict willingness to use mandatory PPE (face-shields, respirators, gloves).
