The HVDC link is critical national infrastructure, connecting the North and South Island transmission grids and enabling a national electricity market providing access to energy resources across the motu. About The Team In Grid Delivery, the Service Delivery Manager - HVDC is part of our Regional Services team, responsible for ensuring Transpower consistently meets the service levels agreed with our customers for the HVDC assets. The team acts as custodian of these assets and the services delivered to customers, working closely with service providers, other Service Delivery roles, and Transpower specialists to support asset health, optimise work delivery, and drive continuous improvement in asset management. Safety, health, and sound commercial acumen remain central to providing reliable transmission for New Zealand with minimal disruption to the network. About The Opportunity - In Christchurch You’ll manage delivery of the specialist service delivery contract for the Benmore-based HVDC Converter Station and the Cook Strait Cable Protection Zone monitoring contract. This includes managing maintenance and project works for HVDC, requiring commercial acuity and high standards of safety and quality. You’ll enjoy driving operational excellence, working with internal and external stakeholders, and liaising with contractors. Ultimately, you’ll ensure all apparatus, equipment, and systems associated with the Transpower HVDC link are monitored, maintained, serviced, repaired, and operated to the required standards for cost, timeliness, safety, and quality. Transpower is currently undertaking a major programme of work to replace the existing Cook Strait HVDC cables and control systems. You’ll help support this once-in-a-generation upgrade programme: https://www.transpower.co.nz/hvdc-upgrade| Transpower Fully utilise your outstanding relationship management skills as you: Assure service delivery performance Provide asset maintenance management and oversight of maintenance projects, including equipment commissioning and operational acceptance Oversee asset condition monitoring and operational and project contract management You’ll ensure work is delivered on budget and produce reporting for budgeting purposes. You’ll also navigate and manage risk and compliance, including striving for continual improvement in health and safety performance. While you may be called upon outside core business hours to support major fault investigations, this is infrequent. What will you bring? Experience in transmission or electricity distribution, with an understanding of the assets to be maintained and commissioned Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Site-based experience and a full New Zealand driver licence A relevant tertiary qualification, and equivalent energy sector experience While not essential, HVDC experience is advantageous. Ideally, you’ll also have experience improving service delivery performance, including safety, quality, and commercial outcomes. Join us at Transpower!
