We are the Citizen & Customer Services unit where our team is all about making our customer’s day – putting exceptional customer service at the centre of our Council. We provide the opportunity for customers to deal with us the way that best suits them, any time – online, email, phone or face-to-face at one of our 12 Service Hubs. About the role | Ko te mahi nei Be the first point of contact for the Council Respond to customer queries via phone, email, and in person Support the community with a wide variety of queries including rates bill queries, booking swimming lessons and arranging contractors to remove graffiti You have at least 4 years' previous experience in a customer service environment, ideally within a large or complex organisation. You have strong verbal and written communication skills, that allow you to connect and communicate well virtually and face to face. You will have experience with a variety of technology platforms, demonstrated competence within an Office 365 operating environment, excellent parallel processing keyboard skills, with proven ability to learn, navigate and use technology and multiple systems and tools whilst interacting with customers. You are customer-focused, able to think on your feet, have a positive attitude, and an ability to stay calm under pressure. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to bring a customer centric and solution mindset to providing exceptional customer outcomes. NCEA level 3 or equivalent work-related experience. Hours of work - You’ll work on a well‑planned rotating roster covering shifts between 5:00am and 10:30pm, including some evenings, Public Holidays and weekends where you’ll work one day across two weekends, followed by four full weekends off Interviews - We are expecting interviews to take place from the 1 st September2026 Start date - It is proposed successful candidates will start 26 th October 2026 Location - Initially roles will be based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, however after training is complete shifts may be based at any Christchurch City Council service hubs or facilities. Salary - The salary band for these positions goes from $67,635 - $75,150 perannum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
