Today, it is home to Fonterra's New Zealand protein and cheese technical teams and continues to play a significant role in our Co-operative's success. About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga We’re looking for a motivated and professional Service Technician to join our Hautapu Fleet Workshop. DairyFert is a Fonterra business unit that has supported Waikato dairy manufacturing sites for more than 20 years, playing an important role in managing dairy by-products and transporting them safely and sustainably to customers for stock feed, land application, wastewater treatment facilities, and composting operations. In this hands‑on role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the DairyFert heavy vehicle fleet operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. Key responsibilities include automotive electrical diagnostics, mechanical servicing, maintenance, and repairs across the DairyFert fleet. You’ll play a vital role in keeping our vehicles and equipment performing at their best while meeting Fonterra’s high operational standards and all relevant legal, health, safety, and environmental requirements. You’ll be based in a modern workshop environment with access to OEM tooling and diagnostic equipment. We know that great equipment needs great people behind it, so we’re looking for someone who is practical, efficient, and solutions‑focused. As an experienced diesel mechanic, you’ll be confident diagnosing faults, whether responding to breakdowns or completing day‑to‑day workshop repairs. Your proactive approach will also support continuous improvement across the workshop, helping to improve fleet reliability, safety, and overall performance. This role operates on a roster of four days on, three days off, with rostered days typically worked between Monday and Friday and subject to operational requirements. You'll work day shifts from 6:00am to 4:30pm, with some on‑call work required. About You | Mōu We’re looking for a dedicated individual with a strong work ethic, well‑developed problem‑solving skills, and a positive, team‑focused attitude. You’ll take pride in your work, value safety, and enjoy contributing to a reliable, high‑performing fleet operation. We’d love to hear from you if you bring: Solid heavy vehicle or diesel mechanic experience, ideally working with Volvo vehicles A NZQA Heavy Vehicle Trade Certificate, Level 4, which is essential for this role A clean Class 5 New Zealand driver’s licence Strong electrical diagnostic skills and a focus on asset care, reliability, and safe fleet performance A practical, self‑motivated approach and the ability to work well with others Great communication skills and a strong commitment to service Good computer skills across a range of platforms With a strong learning and development culture, this is an excellent opportunity to join New Zealand’s largest Co‑operative, grow your technical knowledge, and contribute to a fleet that plays an important role in supporting Fonterra’s wider operations.
