About the role Make a Difference to Planned Care Across the Southern District Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for patient flow, service improvement, and ensuring patients receive timely access to surgery? The healthcare landscape has evolved, with increasing emphasis on outsourcing providers delivering planned surgical services. This role has been established to support Health New Zealand's outsourcing objectives across surgical specialties and to develop a sustainable district-wide approach. We are seeking a highly organised and collaborative nurse to join the Planned Care Team as a Long wait Outsourcing Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and shape a role that supports surgical outsourcing across the Southern district. Working closely with the Planned Care Team, surgical services, and external providers, you will play a key role in maximising surgical capacity and improving patient access to treatment. Hours of work to be negotiated with the successful candidate, please indicate your preferred FTE in your application. Key Responsibilities Review surgical waitlists and identify suitable patients for outsourcing opportunities. Coordinate patient pathways between Health New Zealand and external surgical providers. Maximise utilisation of available outsourcing capacity, including short-notice theatre opportunities. Work closely with providers to ensure patient information and records are available, accurate, and transferred in a timely manner. Monitor outsourcing volumes, activity, and performance measures alongside the Planned Care Manager. Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient flow and service delivery. Provide education and guidance regarding booking processes, patient record management, and post-operative administrative requirements. Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and team resources. About You Hold a current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate. Preferably experience within APAC, surgical services, planned care, patient flow, or care coordination. Strong organisational and time management skills. Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Confidence working across multidisciplinary teams and external healthcare providers. The ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement practical solutions. Strong computer literacy and attention to detail is essential. Experience in patient administration systems, waitlist management, or surgical booking processes would be advantageous.
