We design, manufacture, install, commission and service overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, portal cranes, monorails, chain hoists and specialised lifting systems across New Zealand and the South Pacific. We provide practical lifting solutions for industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, water treatment and service environments, working closely with clients, suppliers, structural engineers, inspectors, workshop teams and site installation crews. We partner with leading international crane and lifting equipment brands, including GH Cranes, JDN, STAHL Crane Systems, Reid Lifting and Giovenzana, and provide nationwide crane servicing, inspections, repairs and breakdown support. Role Description We are looking for a practical and detail‑focused Structural Design Engineer to join our team in Silverdale, Auckland. This role suits someone who enjoys hands‑on engineering, CAD work, site measurement, fabrication support and real‑world problem‑solving. This is a full‑time, on‑site role supporting Monocrane's crane design, structural steel, General Arrangement drawings, manufacturing/fabrication drawings and project delivery workflow. The successful candidate will assist with structural design and documentation for overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, monorails, runway beams, support columns, corbels, brackets, base plates, bracing and related crane support structures. Day-to-day responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing GA drawings, checking crane layouts, converting site measurements into design inputs, reviewing building and structural information, supporting design calculations, and coordinating with clients, suppliers, external engineers, workshop staff and installation teams. This role will help improve design flow and ensure projects are ready for procurement, fabrication, installation and handover. Key Responsibilities Design or check structural steel including runway beams, columns, corbels, brackets, base plates, end stops, tiebacks and bracing. Review crane load data, wheel loads, runway reactions and support structure requirements. Assist with structural calculations, design notes, PS1 / PS4 support and CPEng coordination where required. Review client‑supplied drawings, existing building information and site constraints. Convert site measurements into accurate sketches, mark‑ups, drawing inputs and design information. Prepare, review and support General Arrangement drawings for crane and lifting system projects. Assist with crane layouts, hook coverage, span, headroom, rail gauge, clearances and building interfaces. Coordinate design information with clients, suppliers, external engineers, workshop, project design and installation teams. Support drawing revisions, client mark‑ups and approval responses. Maintain drawing registers, revision records, design assumptions and approval documentation. Help improve design templates, standard details, checklists and repeatable design processes. Prepare or check manufacturing/fabrication drawing information for workshop release. Support as‑built drawings, O&M documentation and final project close‑out records. About You – Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience. Experience with structural steel, industrial structures, crane support structures, runway beams, gantries, monorails or similar steelwork. Strong understanding of load paths, steel members, connections, base plates, bracing and foundation interfaces. CAD experience, preferably AutoCAD and/or 3D modelling software. Ability to read and interpret structural, mechanical, architectural and crane drawings. Ability to prepare, review and coordinate GA drawings and manufacturing/fabrication drawing information. Practical understanding of fabrication, installation and site constraints. Ability to interpret technical specifications, conduct engineering checks and prepare clear documentation. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to safe, compliant design. Clear communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, clients and suppliers. Practical awareness of workplace health and safety requirements, with willingness to attend site visits as required. Highly Advantageous Experience with overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, monorails or hoisting systems. Experience with manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings or workshop detailing. Experience with 3D modelling software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Tekla, Advance Steel or Navisworks. Knowledge of AS/NZS standards relevant to structural steel, crane support structures and seismic design. Experience working with CPEng engineers, design verifiers, inspectors or certification requirements. Experience with PS1 / PS4 documentation or design and construction statements. Site measurement, construction observation or fabrication support experience. CPEng status, or working towards CPEng, would be beneficial but is not essential. External CPEng review/support may be used where required. Personal Attributes Self‑motivated and able to work independently. Strong attention to detail.
