Take a leading role in an exciting transformation journey Opportunity to lead fundamental improvements of critical capabilities that contribute to national resilience and public safety. As the Programme Management Office (PMO) Manager Prevention Programmes, you will provide Tier-3 strategic leadership, programme design, management, assurance and oversight and delivery of three key strategic improvement initiatives that support Fire and Emergency New Zealand's longterm goals. While this role is positioned in the Prevention Branch, the role will work across the organisation to lead and deliver the benefits of complex, multi-year programmes. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Prevention, this senior level position is responsible for leading three major Strategic Improvement Programmes: the modernisation of Fire and Emergency New Zealand's training system; the development and implementation of a new regulatory system; and the establishment of a nationwide strategic partnerships, relationships and engagement capability. This is a newly established programme management office that holds responsibility for delivery structure, coordination, stakeholder engagement and assurance across these programmes. This role is critical for generating operational capability and fire safety outcomes across the motu. As a busy and challenging role, wide stakeholder engagement and agility is paramount to establish priorities and allocation of work across the team to meet key deliverables in a timely manner. This is a two-year fixed term position from ASAP - 1 September 2028. Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you'd bring to the role As an experienced senior people leader and programme director, you will bring a strong track record of developing high-performing teams with good morale and culture. You will have significant experience working with executive teams and will be skilled at presenting and reporting to governance boards to provide professional, timely and effective strategic advice and delivery artefacts. You will have demonstrated experience that aligns with long-term multi-programme delivery and ideally have worked within an organisation where national resilience and public safety is forefront of mind. To be successful in this role, we'd expect you will have Significant experience (5+ years) leading or managing a strategic PMO in a complex, multistakeholder environment preferably within the New Zealand public sector Experience working in programmes requiring complex design and that deliver regulatory, training and safety outcomes A deep knowledge of programme and project management methodologies Strong leadership, systems thinking, organisational and analytical skills, and the ability to influence across a wide diverse stakeholder base with diverse interests Excellent verbal and communication skills with ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences Familiarity with New Zealand public sector context and relevant legislation Experience in vendor management support with a programme context Understanding of change management principles Understanding of the emergency sector Understanding of tikanga Māori and demonstratable understanding of the Tiriti o Waitangi Kowai mātou - who are we Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity responsible for reducing unwanted fires, responding to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters, and supporting increased community resilience.
