About the team Our Application Services team, in our award-winning ICT division, helps ensure that electricity is delivered to all New Zealanders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by maintaining and evolving complex critical IT systems. About the Opportunity As a senior member of the Application Services Development team, you’ll be hands‑on in developing, configuring, enhancing and operating enterprise applications that support important business processes across Transpower. You’ll contribute to solution design and continuous improvement of our engineering standards, helping ensure our applications are secure, maintainable, reliable and fit for purpose in production. With a strong focus on enterprise application delivery, you’ll lead the technical delivery of new features, enhancements, platform changes and lifecycle upgrades across a varied application portfolio. This may include custom development, low‑code configuration, workflow automation, APIs and integrations between SaaS, COTS and on‑premise systems. You’ll work closely with Business Analysts, Architects, Principal Engineers, other Engineers, platform owners and Operations teams to deliver practical, supportable outcomes. This role also includes periodic third‑level support and maintenance activities to keep important services running smoothly. Requirements Extensive analysis, design and programming experience (5 to 10 years+) Experience leading delivery of application development work and mentoring other engineers Hands‑on experience delivering and supporting SaaS, COTS, low‑code and custom‑built business applications Hands‑on experience with DevOps toolchains (CI/CD), configuration management, and working with production systems Strong understanding of integration concepts, including APIs, data flows and interfaces between enterprise systems Senior‑level capability across the following areas Designing, developing, configuring and supporting enterprise applications across custom, low‑code, SaaS and COTS technology stacks Building robust backend services and APIs where custom development is required, for example Java / Spring Boot or similar technologies Delivering workflow, form, automation and case‑management solutions using platforms such as ServiceNow, Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform or similar Connecting enterprise applications using APIs, integration services and pragmatic interface patterns Working with application data and persistence, including relational databases and data migration or data quality considerations Designing and operating production applications with a reliability mindset, including monitoring, logging, performance and incident response Modern delivery practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, build/release discipline and environment management Secure software development and engineering quality, including peer review, threat‑aware design, maintainability and managing technical debt Leadership behaviours, including mentoring and coaching, clear technical communication and constructive collaboration with stakeholders Why you should join us We stand together for New Zealand — Tū mai Aotearoa — to enable a 100% renewable energy future.
