Senior Legal and Commercial Advisor

Our client is seeking an experienced senior legal counsel to join its inhouse legal team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. Based primarily in Auckland, this role offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of complex energy, infrastructure and construction projects while partnering closely with senior business leaders and experienced legal professionals. You will provide commercially focused legal advice across major development projects, large-scale construction contracts, procurement, commercial agreements, regulatory matters and strategic business initiatives. Working as a trusted adviser, you will support projects from inception through to delivery while helping manage legal risk and deliver practical commercial outcomes. This is a 9-month fixed-term opportunity (with some flexibility on duration) offering market-leading work, genuine flexibility around working hours and the option to work full-time or four days per week for the right candidate. While Auckland is the preferred location, other office locations may be considered What we’re looking for A skilled lawyer with 8+ years' post qualification experience, gained in private practice, in-house or a combination of both and a current NZ legal practising certificate Exposure to energy, infrastructure, or utilities sectors is an advantage Strong commercial contracting experience, particularly involving large-scale construction, infrastructure or major projects Excellent commercial judgement and a pragmatic, risk-based approach to legal advice The ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across the business Strong drafting, negotiation and problem-solving skills Experience in the energy, infrastructure, construction or other regulated sectors would be advantageous, but is not essential A collaborative approach and the confidence to work autonomously on complex matters About the organisation Our client is a highly regarded market leader delivering nationally significant infrastructure and energy projects across New Zealand.
