Job Description
GENERAL MANAGER – ENGINEERING, NZS GROUP NZS Group is expanding across commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors — and we’re strengthening our engineering leadership to support that growth. We are looking for a senior leader from the scaffolding or temporary works industry who understands how design, methodology and engineering practice shape safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery. You’ll bring practical knowledge of how scaffolds are designed, built and reviewed, and you’ll be confident reading plans, interpreting designs and guiding teams through complex builds. This role is the bridge between our Engineering team and our Operations teams across all branches . You’ll manage expectations between Branch GMs/RMs and the engineering team, ensuring engineering input is delivered at the right level, at the right time, and in a way that supports operational reality. You’ll balance design solutions and compliance requirements with the practical challenges faced on the ground, ensuring what is designed can be built safely, efficiently and commercially. You’ll influence how design is done, how capability is built, and how major projects are won and delivered. You’ll see the impact of your leadership every day — on sites, in tenders, and across the businesses you support. If you’re ready to lead engineering excellence and build something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you. The salary range for this role is $130,000–$180,000, with the higher end applicable to candidates who hold formal engineering qualifications. The role can be based in Auckland or Wellington. What We Are Looking For We are looking for a leader who will: Engineering direction: Guide our companies on how to scope, design and plan jobs requiring engineering input. Lead design standards, oversee peer reviews and ensure high‑risk work follows correct methodology. Design capability uplift: Lift the Group’s proficiency with design software and tools. Lead training, coach teams, and ensure design blocks and software libraries are maintained and used consistently. Engineering–Operations bridge: Act as the connector between Engineering and Operations. Manage expectations from Branch GMs and RMs, ensure engineering work is prioritised correctly, and translate design intent into practical, buildable solutions. Balance compliance, methodology and safety with real‑world operational constraints. Engineering team engagement: Oversee how engineering work is allocated across the engineering team. Ensure the team is engaged at the right level and focused on priority projects and customers. Innovation & digital engineering: Champion BIM, building scans and digital tools that improve pricing accuracy, strengthen tender submissions and enhance delivery planning. Group engineering policy: Maintain and enforce engineering policies and procedures across all companies. Lead consistent adoption and continuous improvement. Quality assurance: Conduct site inspections to ensure builds follow design intent. Identify training needs and lead capability uplift where gaps exist. What Success Looks Like Consistent engineering practice across all companies for higher‑risk jobs. Strong in‑house design capability embedded into pricing, planning and delivery. Effective use of NZS Group Engineers for design review/sign‑off and methodology advice. Smooth alignment between Engineering and Operations , with clear expectations, practical solutions and strong delivery outcomes. What You Bring We are looking for someone with: Scaffolding & engineering/design experience — background in scaffolding, temporary works and design. Leadership experience — proven ability to lead people, influence teams and manage technical workstreams. Adaptability — able to work in a busy environment and with a range of people across multiple companies and disciplines. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. #J-18808-Ljbffr
