Quantity Surveyor/Estimator Posted: 07/08/2026 Closing Date: 04/09/2026 Job Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: 113 Savill Drive, Otahuhu, Auckland 2024 Job Category: Operations About The Role Steel & Tube, New Zealand's leading steel solutions provider with over 70 years of history, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join our Reinforcing Auckland team. Based in Auckland and reporting to the National Commercial Manager, this blended role combines the full commercial responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor with practical estimating on reinforcing steel projects across construction and infrastructure. You will manage project costs and contractual integrity throughout the lifecycle - preparing claims, variations, budgets and forecasts, handling retentions, bonds and final accounts, and ensuring compliance with the Construction Contracts Act and standard forms (NZS 3910, 3915, 3916 and SA-2017/2025). You'll also prepare estimates and material take-offs for rebar, mesh and accessories, analyse drawings, obtain quotes and submit competitive tenders. Working closely with internal teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors, you'll protect margins, resolve payment issues, manage debtors and maximise recoveries. This is a hands-on commercial role that offers real ownership of financial and contractual outcomes. Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit monthly claims, cost reports and variations; resolve payment schedule discrepancies and settle final accounts Manage variations, FAF and cost fluctuation claims to maximise recoveries and protect margins Review contractual obligations, manage retentions and bonds, and ensure compliance and timely certifications Develop and control project budgets, forecasts and cash flows; identify risks and opportunities Complete estimates and material take-offs for rebar, mesh and accessories; prepare and submit tenders Support subcontractor evaluation, pricing, contracts and payments in collaboration with project teams Build strong client, supplier and internal relationships through clear communication and commercial focus Uphold HSEQ standards and contribute to the One Company operating model What You'll Bring Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, construction management, engineering or related field Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator in construction (main contractor or subcontractor) - we welcome both intermediate-level professionals and early-career candidates with strong academic results and a willingness to learn Understanding of NZ standard form contracts, SA-2017/2025 and the Construction Contracts Act Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and prepare accurate cost estimates Strong analytical, mathematical, negotiation and communication skills Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft 365 (especially Excel) Current clean driver’s licence Desirable: Professional membership (MNZIQS or MRICS), experience with JobPac, Procore, Aconex, PayApps or similar, and proficiency in estimating/BIM tools Why Steel & Tube?
