Operations Liaison Engineer (Wastewater Treatment) About the team | Ko te rōpū nei Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of New Zealand's largest and most complex treatment facilities. As we continue to deliver significant capital upgrades,we'relooking for an experienced engineer who can bridge the gap between operations and project deliveryto join the team on a2.5 yearfixed term. You'llbe successful in this role ifyou'veworked in a live operational environment where safety, compliance, and uninterrupted service delivery are non-negotiable.You'recomfortable having technical conversations with engineers and practical conversations with operators, contractors, and project teams. Thisisn'ta traditional project engineering role.You'llplay a critical part in ensuring projects can be safely constructed, commissioned, and integrated into an operating wastewater treatment plant without compromising plant performance, compliance, or safety. About the role | Ko te mahi nei You'llbe the key link between plant operations and capital delivery teams, helping ensure new assets and upgrades can be safely constructed, commissioned, and integrated into an operating wastewater treatment plant. You'llwork across multiple projects simultaneously, balancing operational requirements, project priorities, safety, and risk. Your work will include: Coordinating operational input into project design and delivery Supporting commissioning, operational readiness, and asset handover activities Planning outages, shutdowns, isolations, and site access requirements Participating in design reviews, HAZOPs, workshops, and risk assessments Reviewing construction methodologies from an operational perspective Working closely with contractors, engineers, and operational teams to resolve competing priorities Ensuring projects are fit-for-purpose before they are handed over to operations We'relooking for someone who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You'llbring: Experience working within wastewater, water, industrial process, manufacturing, power generation, or similar operational environments Experience supporting construction, commissioning, operational readiness, or asset handover activities A strong understanding of operational risk and working safely within live operating facilities Knowledge of NZ health and safety practices, risk management, and contractor management The ability to build credibility and influence across diverse stakeholders Excellent communication and problem-solving skills An engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience Highly Valued Experience We'reparticularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following: Wastewater treatment operations Commissioning industrial or process plant assets Permit to Work systems Asset handover and operational integration Process engineering What's in it for you? Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
