We have Parking Officers from many walks of life; different ages, ethnicities and work backgrounds – from Chefs to Customer Service, Security to degree qualified. Customer Service Whilst our Parking Officers promote compliance with city parking regulations and manage the turnover of parking spaces, they also provide customer service to our residents and visitors, ensuring the safe movement of people and goods within Pōneke. Our Parking Officersconnect with the public on a regular basis and spend most of their time outdoors in and around the city. On any given day they can cover up to 20km of city streets and parking areas, and this requires a high level of fitness due to Wellington terrain. Training We provide thorough in-house training and for your first two weeks on the job, you will be in full‑time training in our offices between 8.00am and 5.00pm. Following this, you will move onto our rotating roster with start times ranging from 7.00am, 8.00am (weekends only), 9.30am, and 11.00am. Our rosters include weekend shifts. Āu ake mahi | What you'll do In this dynamic job you will embrace: being the "face" of Wellington City Council– you will be proud to wear our uniform using your customer service skills to promote positive public relations helping to keep Pōneke moving and enable accessibility to our city actively issue infringements to non‑compliant vehicles using technology ensuring your assigned area is monitored effectively working in a wider team of great people who are supportive Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience We're looking for someone who has: good physical fitness with the ability to walk long distances, including up hills (up to 20km a day), in all weather - rain, hail or shine (please note, our Physio will test your cardiovascular fitness, knee and trunk function) the natural ability to build rapport with customers the ability to use, learn and adapt to modern communication technologies good problem‑solving skills and written and numeracy skills ability to work without direct supervision and high team orientation the motivation to wear a uniform with pride a clean full New Zealand driver's licence The starting hourly rate for this role is $30.90 per hour.
