This is a Finance Business Partner role for an experienced management accountant ready to operate at pace across strategic financial and business advice, multi-year forecasting, and reporting. As part of the Financial Performance Team, you'll be a trusted advisor to your portfolio's Directors and their teams — not just producing analysis, but shaping it, critically critiquing business plans and performance results, and directly influencing NZRC's financial sustainability. You'll report to the Strategic Finance Manager and work closely with the business areas you will partner with to enable their decision making.

What sets this role apart:\n
    \n
  • Genuine influence: you'll be expected to thoughtfully challenge the rationale and assumptions behind business plans, budgets and forecasts — not just process them.
  • \n
  • Board and ELT exposure: assisting in the preparation of Portfolio and Organisational reports for monthly ELT and National Board reporting, with direct visibility on organisational performance.
  • \n
  • Complexity and ownership: financial modelling for business cases and capital expenditure, post-project benefit reviews, and the judgement to identify emerging fiscal and business risks across your portfolios.
  • \n
  • Strategic input: your advice will factor financial, social and environmental sustainability considerations into portfolio decision-making, aligned to NZRC's Strategy 2030.
  • \n
In this role you will:\n
    \n
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships across a broad range of internal stakeholders, actively influencing day-to-day decisions and identifying strategic opportunities to enhance NZRC's fiscal position.
  • \n
  • Own the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the budgeting and forecasting process for your portfolios, including capital expenditure.
  • \n
  • Review management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations for reasonableness, in conjunction with the Financial Accountant.
  • \n
  • Assist the collation of Portfolio and Organisational reporting for monthly ELT and National Board packs.
  • \n
  • Provide advanced financial modelling for business cases, quantify project benefits, and conduct post-project reviews of outcomes against expectations.
  • \n
  • Keep ahead of emerging trends within your portfolios to proactively identify fiscal and business improvement opportunities.
  • \n
To be successful you will have:\n
    \n
  • A senior management accountant with a strong grasp of accounting fundamentals, standards, and financial software packages, ideally with exposure to Board or ELT-level reporting.
  • \n
  • An accounting degree and professional qualification (CA or CPA preferred), with solid post-qualifying experience partnering senior stakeholders.
  • \n
  • A track record of leading budgets, multi-year forecasts and financial modelling for business cases.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to challenge and influence senior leaders through professionalism, discretion and sound judgement.
  • \n
  • Strong analytical capability — able to use logic and structured methods to resolve complex problems with effective solutions.
  • \n
  • A commercial background is advantageous; exposure to carbon accounting or integrated reporting is a plus.
  • \n
  • Genuine enthusiasm for humanitarian causes and the mission of New Zealand Red Cross.
  • \n
