We have a number of roles at both Analyst and Senior Analyst level to join us on a permanent basis. Our team is responsible for advising the Government on the fiscal strategy and New Zealand's macroeconomic policy frameworks, and works closely with teams across the building on the modernisation of fiscal and Budget processes. This includes a mix of fast-paced and high-profile policy advice through the Budget process or in response to new developments and shocks, strategic advice for an incoming Government, as well as long‑term stewardship work. Key areas of work for our team include: Fiscal strategy : This includes analysis and advice on major fiscal choices for the Government, including prudent levels of debt, appropriate fiscal targets, and the drivers of and trade‑offs associated with medium term expenditure and revenue pressures. Macroeconomic policy frameworks . We are responsible for advice on overall policy frameworks including the monetary policy framework and monetary‑fiscal co‑ordination. This includes working closely with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on analytical and policy work as well as advice to the Minister on both current and strategic policy issues. Budget and fiscal framework modernisation. This includes advising Ministers on measures they can take to improve the transparency and accountability of fiscal strategy decisions and medium‑term improvements to fiscal and Budget policy settings that improve fiscal sustainability. These roles will lead or contribute to multiple projects, tailored to the skills and interests of successful applicants. You will have a varied and challenging work programme, with regular exposure to engagement with senior leadership and plenty of opportunities to learn and develop on the job. For this role, we are seeking a candidate with: Critical thinking and strong analytical ability. Enthusiasm for developing policy analysis skills in a new area. Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts clearly and succinctly. Strong relationship building skills and the ability to establish trust and influence. An ability to operate in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment. For Analyst applications you must have a minimum of 18 months’ career experience. For Senior Analyst applications you must have a minimum of five years’ career experience.
