About The Role: We are on the hunt for an Intern to join our growing team at Generate Zero as a Data Engineer. Working closely with our Data team to build, maintain and troubleshoot the pipelines that move client data into the Generate Zero Platform. You’ll learn from experienced engineers as you write for-production pipelines and automation using SQL and Python, work with cloud data platforms, and see how your work supports accurate, audit-ready sustainability reporting for our clients. This role will initially be a 10-week contract, full time (dates flexible), however there is potential for the intern position to roll onto part-time work after this period. You will be responsible for: Supporting the development, testing and maintenance of client data pipelines Use a combination of tools and stacks (Azure Storage, Fabric, python, SQL, postgres, SQL Server) to streamline, automate and develop quality assurance, version control and lineage capabilities for our data operations Writing and troubleshooting SQL queries to extract, transform and validate client data Helping to load and organise data from a range of sources (files, APIs, databases) into cloud-based data platforms Working closely with the data team to build out data ingestion templates and new data connectors to improve our client implementation process Running and automating data quality checks and helping to identify and resolve data issues Supporting the data-side of client implementations onto our platform Documenting your work clearly, including data processes, pipeline logic and any issues encountered Participating in code reviews and taking feedback on board to continuously improve your technical skills Supporting the wider data team with ad-hoc analysis and data tasks as needed What you will bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, data, engineering, mathematics or a related field Some exposure to SQL through study, personal projects, internships or coursework Basic familiarity with Python or another programming language Some knowledge of using environments like Azure or AWS for building, storing, or transforming data Comfortable with handling data in different formats (e.g. json, csv, relational database) An interest in data transformation, quality control, cloud platforms and how businesses use data to make decisions A love for collaboration and a willingness to contribute to a supportive, idea-sharing team environment Why join us?
